NHL expert picks January 17. Sabres cover the puckline

Daily NHL Picks & Predictions: Sabres Cover Puckline In Chicago

It's a small slate of NHL action tonight. Only three games are on the schedule. All of them are starting before 8 PM ET. Which is great for us like me in the Eastern Time Zone!

Here's a bet for all three games in the show tonight. Happy betting y'all!

Red Wings vs Panthers - Panthers -1.5 (+114)
The Game: Detroit Red Wings vs Florida Panthers, 7 PM ET

The Panthers are heavy favorites tonight at -218 on the moneyline. They're 7-3SU when favored by at least -200. So they should very well win tonight. Can they do it by two goals or more?

Yeah, probably. The Panthers have won by more than 1.5 goals 17 times this year, or 63% of their total wins. For Detroit, they've lost by two or more goals 56% of the time this season.

The books are giving the Cats a 47% chance of covering the puck line, I'm calling out the books and hoping to make some good coin on it.

Devils vs Canadiens - OVER 6.5 (-105)
The Game: New Jersey Devils vs Montreal Canadiens, 7 PM ET

The total has gone OVER 6.5 goals in five of the Canadiens' last seven games. What makes this sustainable is that both sides are scoring a ton of goals. The Habs score 2.7 goals per game while their opponents score 3.4.

For the Devils, they've seen the total exceed 6.5 goals four times in their last seven games. New Jersey can score and they can't defend either. They're scoring an average of 3.9 goals in those last seven and giving up 3.1 goals.

Blackhawks vs Sabres - Sabres -1.5 (-110)
The Game: Chicago Blackhawks vs Buffalo Sabres, 7:30 PM ET

Buffalo should win tonight. The question is, can they cover the puckline? Of their nine victories on the road, eight were by two goals or more. That's 89% of the time.

The Blackhawks have played seven games on 0 days of rest this year. They're 0-7 SU in all seven games. Their opponent has won by two or more goals in six of those situations.

I like the Sabres at -1.5 tonight.
