The Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox open a three-game series at Guaranteed Rate Field Friday with both teams sending struggling pitchers to the mound. Corey Kluber has been nowhere near the Cy Young candidate many expect him to be while Jose Quintana has been struggling with his control so far this season.
Kluber has been leaving too many balls over the plate and has gotten rocked for it. Through his first three starts, Kluber has surrendered five home runs (2.5 HRs per nine innings) compared to 22 in 32 starts last season (0.9 HR9). However, maybe facing a White Sox team that is downright awful at the plate could help.
The ChiSox seemed like they were going to deal Quintana over the offseason but the asking price was too steep. It seems as though the ChiSox might have overvalued Quintana, as the lefty has a 6.75 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP through his first three outings. Quintana has been struggling to find the plate with the left-hander already walking nine batters on the season.
