MLB Expert Picks For April 23rd: Fade The Astros

Let's keep the MLB winners coming this week with a few more Tuesday selections.

I've found a few good lines as I perused the baseball sportsbooks this morning. So, here are my two picks for today's MLB slate:

MLB Expert Picks: April 23rd, 2024

You can jump directly to today's picks here:

Pick 1: Dodgers -1.5 (-138) vs Nats

Matchup Preview - Game Time: 6:45 pm ET

I faded Patrick Corbin against the Dodgers a week ago, and that went great. The Dodgers put up five earned runs on Corbin (nine hits, four walks) and coasted to a 6-2 win. The line tonight is pretty rough in terms of value, but I think the Dodgers are going to wreck Corbin once again.

With lefty James Paxton pitching for Los Angeles, the southpaw splits are important here, too. The Dodgers have a .736 team OPS against lefties so far this year, while the Nats have a .583 (third-worst in MLB).

Pick 2: Cubs (+100) vs Astros

Matchup Preview - Game Time: 7:40 pm ET

JP France is having a tough time out there. The Astros have lost in all four of his outings in 2024, as France posts a 7.08 ERA and just 16 strikeouts in 20.1 innings. He's getting hit around, with 26 hits allowed in those starts, and that's not gonna fly against the Cubs offense. Chicago owns the seventh-best team OPS so far this season, averaging 5.4 runs per game, too.

Cubs starter Jordan Wicks may not be a legend, with his 5.29 ERA on the season. But he's been good enough for the Cubs to win half his starts and he's certainly been better than JP France.
