World Series Game 4 Odds: NYM vs KC

Heading into Game 3 of the World Series, it seemed as though it may be a cakewalk for the Kansas City Royals, but the New York Mets disagreed with an emphatic 9-3 on Friday. The Mets have relished in their opportunities to play at Citi Field this postseason with a 4-1 record while averaging 6.2 runs at home during the playoffs.

  • Teams up 2-1 in the World Series win it all 71 percent of the time.
  • Not a single Royals batter has ever faced Steven Matz.
  • Chris Young owns a career postseason ERA of 1.45.

The Mets offense looked stagnant through the first two games of the series, but exploded in Game 3 thanks to David Wright and Curtis Granderson. The two players were 4-for-19 through the first two games of the World Series, but went 4-for-10 with six RBIs on Friday night.

The Royals struggled mightily to catch up to pitcher Noah Syndergaard in Game 3 with Kansas City swinging and missing 16 times in the game. Expect to see leadoff hitter Alcides Escobar come out with a chip on his shoulder on Halloween night as the first pitch of Game 3 narrowly missed his head and he had no problem pointing it out after the game.

Steven Matz, a New York-native and lifelong Mets fan, will get take to the bump for New York on Saturday. There were question marks surrounding Matz coming into the playoffs as he had the second fewest starts of any postseason starter in history, but the youngster proved any doubters wrong with a 3.72 ERA and eight Ks through 9.2 innings of work during the postseason.

The Royals will send former Mets pitcher Chris Young to oppose his old club Halloween night. Young’s last appearance saw him pitch three innings of relief in the 14-inning marathon Game 1 in the World Series. Young has a 2.31 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 11.2 innings of work this postseason.
