Luis Cessa will make his first MLB start tonight as the Yankees continue their West Coast road trip in Game 2 of their three-game set with the LA Angels. The Yankees are staying an arm's length out of the playoff race and are running out of time to close the gap.
As mentioned, Cessa has never started in the majors before. In his eight relief appearances, however, the Mexican owns a 5.33 ERA. Cessa has been up and down from Triple-A this year and will look earn a spot in the big club for the rest of the season with a quality performance tonight in Anaheim.
Ricky Nolasco – yes he still pitches in the majors – gets the call for the Angels tonight and will bring his 4-10 record and 5.13 ERA to the mound. There’s really nothing good to say about this guy, he’s just really bad.
The value in this one probably comes in taking a flyer on Cessa in his first career start. The call-up has pitched well in Triple-A Scranton and had a 3.03 ERA in 14 starts before he made the step up to the majors.
