Heavyweights Collide: Warriors at Cavs

Stephen Curry LeBron James

The Golden State Warriors aren’t exactly hitting their stride ahead of Monday’s marquee matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The once seemingly unbeatable Warriors have dropped two of their last three and are particularly poor coming off short rest (the spot they’re in tonight). The Dubs are 0-8 ATS in their last eight when playing on one day of rest. Golden State opened as 3-point underdogs at most sportsbooks – just the second time this season they’ve been tabbed as dogs.

Shark Bites
  • The total has gone OVER in 14 of the Warriors' last 18 games on the road.
  • The Cavaliers are 3-0 ATS in their last three games when favored by 3.0 or less.
  • The Warriors are 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS in their last four games against the Cavaliers.

There’s no love lost between these teams in the NBA Finals rematch. Warriors’ sharpshooter Stephen Curry, referencing his team’s championship conquest over the wine and gold in front of their home fans last spring, told reporters on Sunday “Hopefully, [the visiting locker room] still smells a little bit like champagne.”

The powerhouses met back on Christmas Day in California, where Golden State triumphed 89-83 but barely failed to cover the closing -7 spread.

The Warriors rank as the third best bet in the Association at 24-16-1 ATS, but you’ll have to look much lower down the list to find the Cavaliers (17-20-1 ATS). Keep in mind, however, that Cleveland has played without dominant point guard Kyrie Irving for most of its season.

Now that Irving is back in the fold and operating at full health (he’s averaging 17 PPG, 3.8 assists while shooting .420 from the field in 12 appearances) this is a much different team than the Dubs saw in June.
