What Will Watson do as Followup to his Performance at Foxborough?

Nearly pulling off the impossible at Foxborough on Sunday, Deshaun Watson came within one successful Tom Brady two-minute drill of becoming the first rookie quarterback to win a game at Gillette Stadium – that has to count for something. He’ll carry the momentum of that performance into his first career home start when he and the Texans host the Titans on Sunday afternoon.

SHARK BITES
  • The Texans are 10-2 SU in their last 12 games against their division.
  • The Titans are 2-8 SU and ATS in their last 10 games against the Texans.
  • The Texans are 2-7 SU and ATS in their last 9 games as home underdogs.

All that said of Watson, he’s still a little raw and his propensity for making bad throws could haunt him for a while. He’s thrown three interceptions in 80 attempts so far and the two he coughed up against a bad Pats secondary probably cost his team the game. The Clemson product has, however, increased his completion percentage every week since being called upon against the Jaguars and he looks like he could be the first legitimate NFL quarterback the Texans have had since their move to Houston.

Speaking of legit signal-callers, the Titans have one of their own in Marcus Mariota. The third-year QB was terrific in a win over the Seahawks last Sunday and he’ll have to be again if the Titans are to win a game in Houston. In his only other start against in H-Town, Mariota completed just 13 of his 29 passes and was picked off once in a 27-20 loss.

That loss was one of many for the Titans against the Texans – who have been money against divisional opponents – and it’s a little funny to see Tennessee favored on the road.

A quick look at the trends, though, will show that the Titans are 5-1 SU and 3-2-1 ATS in their last six games as road faves. Yes, three of those wins came against the Jaguars but the trend shows that the Titans aren’t completely useless on the road and that they’ll most likely give the Texans a game.
