Relegation Fight Down to Three Clubs

Aston Villa’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United was the final nail in the coffin in what turned out to be a disastrous campaign for the Birmingham club. For the first time in 28 seasons, and the first time since the Premier League as we know it was formed in 1992-93, the Villains will ply their trade in the second tier of English football.

But what of the the other two spots for relegation?

Well, those places are currently occupied by Sunderland (18th) and Newcastle United (19th) but Norwich is within reach and Crystal Palace is still not out of the woods, but is eight points clear of the Canaries.

Newcastle United is the fave among four teams on the board at online shop Sportsbook to be relegated, entering the weekend at -333.

The Magpies have 29 points and are two-points behind Norwich for 17th in the league table. They have a tough run-in with trips to Liverpool and Aston Villa as well as visits from Crystal Palace and title-chasing Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle’s Tyne and Wear neighbor, Sunderland, enters the weekend with 30 points and are coming off a momentum-building win over Norwich last weekend. The Black Cats have the luxury of owning one game in hand but have an incredibly challenging run in. Sunderland will host Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton and hit the road for dates versus Stoke and Watford.

As far as Norwich is concerned, their remaining schedule is not enviable either. The Canaries are home versus Manchester United and Watford and have away days versus Arsenal and Everton.

Palace is on the board, but will certainly be feeling less pressure than the aforementioned three clubs. The London club has the advantage of being nine points clear of the relegation zone and travel to Newcastle and Southampton with home games versus Watford and Stoke left on the schedule.
