Temple Looks for 12th Straight Cover in AAC Championship Game

Before their annual Army-Navy game, the Midshipmen will take on Temple in the AAC championship game representing the West division. The Owls, who finished first in the East due to a tiebreaker with USF, will hit the road for the AAC championship for the second straight year.

SHARK BITES
  • Navy is 10-3-1 ATS in its last 14 games at home.
  • The total has gone UNDER in Temple's last four games against its conference.
  • Temple has covered 11 straight games.

Temple ended the regular season on an 11-game cover streak and allowed just 23 total points over the last four games. Both teams finished the year with 7-1 conference records but Temple will have to travel to Navy’s home field in Maryland based on the Midshipmen cracking the AP Top 25 – the Owls were unranked.

Navy has flourished since moving from the Independent Conference in 2015 and can match its 11-2 record from last year by winning this weekend and then again in the Army-Navy game. The Midshipmen took the last meeting between these teams two years ago but are just 2-6 against the spread in their last eight meetings – spanning 14 years.

At the time of writing, Temple was a three-point underdog and that’s good news for Owl backers if you believe our computer as it has them beating Navy by a 39.8-31.8 score.

The Midshipmen are coming off emphatic victories over East Carolina and SMU in which they scored a total of 141 points and allowed 62. Navy’s offense has been its strength all season long, which is exactly contrary to Temple’s strength – defense. Conventional betting wisdom would tell you to take the team laying points if they have the better defense and that advice seems sound, given our computer’s prediction.

Sportsbook Odds & Computer Pick

The Navy Midshipmen were listed as -1.5-point favorites at sportsbooks such as Sportsbook on the college football lines menu.

A 40-32 result in favor of the Owls was the prediction by the Odds Shark handicapping pick engine earlier this week.
