I know what you're thinking, the South Carolina bowing out in the second round? It's a bold choice considering the Gamecocks are heavy -600 favourites to win the East. But, this has nothing to do with Dawn Staley's terrific coaching abilities and everything to do with the uneasy sloppiness from the Gamecocks ahead of the tournament.
Yes, they stayed undefeated. But, their last four outings were decided by 11 points or fewer. Not the typical 29.8 scoring margin (ranked first) we're used to seeing all year.
Not to mention, the SEC Tournament finals was a free-for-all. The Gamecocks led the scoreboard 79-72 but the final minutes saw a near-bench brawl on the court. Enough tension to have leading point-scorer Kamilla Cardoso suspended for the opening round. Losing composure and discipline may put South Carolina in a tough spot.
