Ladies and gentlemen, start your … marbles?
That’s right, start your marbles for the JMR Marbula One Grand Prix events. Marble racing isn’t something that was on my radar until about two weeks ago when a video was circulating of the first Grand Prix of the season, Savage Speedway, which has over ONE MILLION views on YouTube at the time of this writing.
It may seem a little bizarre, maybe the self-isolation is getting to me, but in doing some research and watching a few Grands Prix, I think I’m a big fan!
What Is JMR?
JMR, or Jelle’s Marble Runs, has been holding events for years, with three different series: the Marble League, the Marble Rally and the newest, the Marbula One, which debuted this year. JMR is based in the Netherlands with a team of 11 people that handle various duties, including social media, writers and editors, and product management.
It all began when Jelle started building marble tracks as a young boy and it became a fascination. His brother Dion then suggested escalating the idea from just having the marbles go through the track to having them race. The tracks can sometimes take multiple days to build before filming the races.
Marbula One follows the Formula One model, with Grands Prix, qualifying, standing starts, etc. Marble League, which debuted in 2016, is a tournament that feels like the Olympics and the Marble Rally, which also debuted in 2016, is an outdoor competition. It is Marbula One that is currently ongoing, having completed the seventh race of the season last week and holding weekly races moving forward for at least one more week.
Betting On Marbula One Championship
Online sportsbook Sportsbook has released odds on which team will win the inaugural Marbula One Championship and has current point leader Hazers at -300 as the favorite.
Savage Speeders won the inaugural Marble League in 2016 and was the runner-up in 2017 and 2018, and can be found second at +150 behind Hazers to win the Marbula One title. Next on the oddsboard is O’rangers at +300 and Team Galactic at +1000.
Last week, Hazers had odds of +400 to win the title and I suggested it was the team to bet on and it appears to now be a lock to win the title.
Here’s a look at the full list of odds to win the inaugural Marbula One Championship:

Midnight Bay GP Betting Odds
We are heading into the eighth race of the Marbula One season, a longer GP called Midnight Bay. This upcoming race is 12.84 meters long, has 15 turns and 16 laps with average lap times of 30.31 seconds. Qualifying will take place on April 4 with the race happening on April 5.
Online sportsbook Sportsbook has released odds for the upcoming Grand Prix and has Hazers and O’rangers the co-favorites at +750, followed by Midnight Wisps at +800, Savage Speeders at +900, Team Galactic at +1000, Green Ducks at +1100, Snowballs at +1100, Team Primary at +1100, Thunderbolts at +1100 and Balls of Chaos at +1400 to round out the top 10 on the oddsboard.
Meanwhile, Sportsbook has a list of prop betting odds to further the action of this week’s Grand Prix.
The first prop I like is “Hazers Pole Position” with the OVER/UNDER set for seventh place and both sides having -120 odds. I like the UNDER as this marble is the points leader so I think it will have good qualifying as it makes the push for the championship.
The second prop I like is “Total Lead Changes” with the line set at 4.5 and the odds both at -120. I like the UNDER for this one because this is a longer track, therefore the field may spread out more, leading to plenty of opportunities for the leader to pull away.
The Grand Prix two weeks ago appeared on ESPN8 the Ocho’s takeover of ESPN2 last week, but you can live-stream this week’s race on JMR’s YouTube and trust me it is oddly captivating.
