Though not as highly publicized as other rivalries, Notre Dame and Stanford have had one of the most evenly contested feuds in college football. Since the two programs started meeting regularly in 1988, Notre Dame is 16-11 SU vs Stanford. However, bettors have been able to cash in on the total with the UNDER hitting in six of the past seven between the Fighting Irish and Cardinal.
Last season was another relatively low-scoring affair, as Stanford picked up a 17-10 victory over Notre Dame. Cardinal running back Bryce Love dominated that outing, accounting for 129 rushing yards and a touchdown.
However, Love has been dealing with an ankle injury for some time. Though the junior has been playing through it, the team would certainly prefer their superstar rest it. If Washington State loses earlier in the day Saturday to Washington, then Stanford will be in the Pac-12 title game regardless and resting Love would make even more sense.
After an embarrassing loss to Miami two weeks ago, Notre Dame bounced back to barely edge out a tough Navy program. The Fighting Irish defense did a good job containing a Navy rushing attack that is one of the best in the nation to just 3.8 yards per carry and one rushing touchdown. However, Notre Dame’s offense has averaged just 16 ppg in its past two games after averaging 38 in the previous seven.
