Two of boxing’s young superstars could be on a collision course later in 2021. Floyd Mayweather’s protégé, Gervonta Davis, and Canelo Alvarez’s training partner, Ryan Garcia, have been sharing words on social media, setting up what would be a highly entertaining boxing match.

Davis, 26 years old, fought once in 2020 on Halloween and delivered a scary knockout of the year performance over Leo Santa Cruz, while Garcia, 22, kicked off 2021 with a knockout over Luke Campbell. Looking at the Davis vs Garcia odds, it is the elder of the two who is the favorite.
Online sportsbook Sportsbook has released Davis vs Garcia odds with Gervonta the -300 favorite and Ryan coming back at +240. This means you would have to bet $300 to profit $100 with a Davis victory, while a $100 bet on a Garcia win would profit you $240.

Davis vs Garcia Odds Analysis
Sports bettors may be licking their chops to see “KingRy” as the betting underdog since he has never closed as such in his short pro boxing career. Short but not sweet for his opponents, as Garcia holds a perfect 21-0 record with 18 wins coming by knockout, 14 of them in the first or second round. Garcia’s fight with Luke Campbell on January 2 represented his tightest betting line when he closed as a -500 favorite.
Not Davis’ Tightest Betting Line
As impressive as Garcia’s record is, “Tank” Davis’ numbers are even more eye-popping. He is also undefeated with a record of 24-0 and has 23 wins by knockout, with the lone decision triumph coming in 2014 in a six-round bout.
The WBA lightweight champion, like Garcia, has entered the ring as the chalk throughout his betting career. When he fought Jose Pedraza for the IBF super featherweight title in 2017, Davis was just a -130 favorite, but he scored a seventh-round knockout.

We all learned a little something about KingRy in his impressive victory over Luke Campbell and that’s that he’s not just a pretty boy. When the going got tough, he continued to fight hard. Garcia was dropped by a left hook in the second round but got up and battled the rest of that round, then took over as the fight continued.
Ultimately, he made his training partner, Canelo Alvarez, very proud with a devastating body shot in the seventh that resulted in Campbell’s first loss by knockout. Garcia was always so good at throwing counter hooks and dropping his opponents, especially after frustrating them with his fast, crisp jab, but in the Campbell fight, he was the aggressor and looked good doing so.
That left hook that dropped Garcia is something his training team will have to fix, though. Dropping his rear hand and standing flat-footed got him in trouble.
‘Tank’ Not Only in Name but Fighting Style as Well
While Garcia will poke at his opponents with his long jab and look to counter over the top, Davis is more chin down, close the distance and throw bombs to close out the night. The Floyd Mayweather protégé has outstanding reflexes and terrific head movement that allows him to stand in the pocket, slip a punch and return with a powerful knockout punch of his own.
At just five and a half feet tall, he doesn’t have that ability to fight from the outside. That said, his tremendous speed and footwork does allow him to close distance quickly, land a good shot and get out of the pocket without taking much damage.
At times in his Leo Santa Cruz victory, he did have some difficulties getting to the inside to land punches, but when he found his Sportsbook, he landed a brutal uppercut that earned him a knockout of the year award.
Davis vs Garcia Prediction
What an awesome fight if we get this in 2021. Although Garcia ended the Campbell fight with a nice body shot, it’s hard to find that type of Sportsbook on a much shorter man. Additionally, the fact that KingRy was dropped by someone not really considered a power puncher should be a bit of a concern heading into this fight with a destroyer like Davis.
However, if Garcia can use his reach and his peppering jab, it could be a frustrating night for Tank. But all it takes is one mistake and he will make KingRy pay.
