Which Athletes Will Retire In 2023: Odds Suggest Tom Brady Is Done

Could 2023 be the year of the athlete retirement?

With many of the world’s top sports stars getting up there in age, online sportsbook Sportsbook has released odds on which athletes could announce their retirement in 2023. Below, we break down those odds and provide a few value picks on some stars to call it a career:

Which Athletes Will Announce Their Retirement In 2023?

The above athletes are ranked from least to most likely to retire, according to the odds. Our sports betting calculator tells us that Aaron Judge’s +10000 odds imply a 0.99 percent chance that the Yankees slugger will call it quits in 2023, while Tom Brady’s odds suggest a 60.00 percent shot.

Odds Suggest TB12 Is Nearing An End

It’s no surprise that the sportsbooks think Tom Brady will call it a career in 2023. He’s already announced his retirement once, only to renege on that retirement a few weeks later. The former Patriots and current Buccaneers quarterback is 45 years old and has played 23 NFL seasons. He’s still a solid player, but there are signs of decline. Brady is on pace for his worst touchdown-to-interception ratio in years and might post the only sub-.500 record of his career.

Best Value Bet To Retire: Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton has said he has no plans to step aside soon, suggesting he wants to go out on top. But, he’s certainly dabbled in thoughts of retirement. There were rumors that Hamilton mulled retirement after a controversial end to the 2021-22 season and the 37-year-old seems to have been surpassed by a new young crop of drivers like Red Bull star Max Verstappen. He’s got the talent to keep driving, but it wouldn’t surprise anyone if Hamilton decided to call it a career in 2023. And at this odds value, it’s not a bad bet.

Bet On Ronaldo To Keep Playing

It seems pretty obvious that Aaron Judge isn’t going to retire this year, after inking a massive contract with the Yankees, and LeBron James has voiced his goal to keep playing until his son, Bronny, enters the NBA. The odds reflect that those two aren’t hanging them up in 2023. The value on soccer star Ronaldo to keep kicking it is a bit better, though.

Even with a controversial exit from Manchester United and an embarrassing benching at the World Cup, Ronaldo has plenty of options (and financial incentives) to keep playing. There are rumblings that the 37-year-old could sign a massive deal to join the Saudi Arabian league or he could join Lionel Messi in the MLS.
