2020 Wyndham Championship: Odds to Win and Expert Picks

J.T. Poston celebrates with the trophy after winning the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club.

The PGA Championship is in the books, and next up on the PGA Tour docket is the 2020 edition of the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In total, four golfers in the top 10 of the FedExCup standings will tee it up at Sedgefield, including reigning Rookie of the Year Sungjae Im. Webb Simpson is the +950 favorite to claim the hardware, followed by Brooks Koepka (+1200), Patrick Reed (+1600) and Tommy Fleetwood (+1800).

The Wyndham Championship is not traditionally played after the PGA Championship, so the field is a little weaker than normal considering the quick turnaround from last week’s major in San Francisco. Only nine of the top 30 in the official world golf rankings are set to participate in the Wyndham Championship.

Here’s a look at the golfers with the best odds to win the 2020 Wyndham Championship at Bovada:

Poston Looking to Repeat at the Wyndham

J.T. Poston, a hometown boy of sorts who grew up just 90 minutes from Greensboro, came out of nowhere here a year ago to win the Wyndham Championship in impressive fashion. Poston fired a lights-out 8-under-par 62 on the final round to claim his first PGA Tour title.

Poston became the first player on the tour since Lee Trevino in 1974 to win a 72-hole tournament without making any bogeys or worse. Poston’s -22 score matched Henrik Stenson’s tournament record. If you think Poston is in prime shape to follow up his success as the track, you can get him at +6600 odds to go back to back.

Simpson finished as the runner-up in 2019, while Byeong Hun An, Viktor Hovland and Si Woo Kim completed the top five.

Can Simpson Catch Thomas in Wyndham Rewards Top 10 Competition?

The Wyndham Championship signifies the end of the Wyndham Rewards Top 10 competition. Justin Thomas, who isn’t scheduled to play at the Wyndham, entered the PGA Championship with a commanding 713-point lead in the standings.

Simpson occupies the No. 2 spot in the standings and will do his best to eclipse Thomas in the Tar Heel State. Im, Reed and Brendon Todd are the only other players within the top 10 who will tee it up at the event.

The Wyndham Championship is known as one of the easiest tournaments on the PGA Tour, so don’t be surprised if you see plenty of players posting low scores here. The last four winners of the Wyndham Championship have all shot 20 under or better.

Wyndham Championship Picks

Brendon Todd +3300

Todd has been excellent in the 2019-20 campaign, notching victories at the Mayakoba Golf Classic and the Bermuda Championship. The 35-year-old has had four 54-hole leads on the season, including in two of his last five tournaments.

Todd fared well at the PGA Championship, leading after the first round and finishing T-17. He specializes in driving accuracy (third on the PGA Tour) and putting (eighth overall in putting average) – two stats that bode well for his chances at the Wyndham.

Ryan Moore +3300

Moore, a five-time PGA Tour winner, has slipped to No. 110 in the world rankings, so it’s understandable if he’s not getting much attention heading into the Wyndham Championship. But the American has been great of late, going T-40, T-12 and T-12 over his last three starts.

There is some risk involved with this bet considering he missed the cut three straight times when the Return to Golf started in June, but he’s won here before in 2009 and claimed two other top-10s in his previous four trips to Sedgefield. At +3300, he’s offering excellent value.

Here’s a helpful outline of some of the different betting options for the Wyndham Championship to help you decide which wager(s) would be best for you.

Props

Golf is unique for many reasons, but one of them is the significant number of betting props available.

Sportsbooks are offering odds on things like whether there will be a hole-in-one, OVER/UNDERs on the winning score for the eventual champion and odds on golfers to make or miss the cut, to name a few. Similar to other sports, props are a fun way to enhance your betting experience.

Live Betting

Live betting is an exhilarating way to watch golf. If the player you placed a pre-tournament bet on is out of the running at any point during the event, you can easily get back in the game by wagering on another golfer as the days go by.

If there are only a few men in the hunt on the final day, the odds likely won’t be significantly high, but your chances of winning are.

Depending on your sportsbook, you should be able to access live betting options during most PGA Tour tournaments.
