2022 Masters Prop Bets: Woods To Bogey First Hole?

The Masters Tournament is the mecca of golf betting as sportsbooks offer numerous props, novelty bets and more. This year will be no different as the 86th edition of the tournament is set to get underway later this week.

With Hideki Matsuyama looking to defend, the man from Japan will attempt to become the first back-to-back Sportsbook since Tiger Woods in 2002. Woods has grabbed the majority of the headlines leading into the tournament as his potential return has garnered the attention of all.

Here’s a breakdown of the top 2022 Masters prop bets on the board:

2022 Masters Prop Bets

Masters Prop: Webb Simpson to Make or Miss the Cut:

The pick: Make (-185)

Perhaps playing into his injury report, this is a number I will happily buy in at for the former U.S. Open champion, who has made his way into the weekend in six of his last seven Masters appearances.

Simpson is slowly but surely returning to 100 percent. Playing sparingly in 2022, he first returned from injury at the Players Championship, missing the cut. He then impressed at the Valspar Championship where he opened with rounds of 67-67 before falling short over the weekend. Simpson then took to the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play where he once again flashed brilliance.

With the top 50 players and ties making the cut, the limited nature of this field makes this wager attractive. In a field of 91 players – 20 of whom present no real concern due to their age and the overall status of their game – Simpson will just need two strong rounds to make his way into the weekend for the fifth straight year at Augusta National.

Masters Prop: Winning Nationality

The pick: USA (-130)

Americans make up 13 of the top 24 players in the world (Harris English is the lone top-25 player who will not be playing in the Masters). Including world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, world No. 3 Collin Morikawa and world No. 5 Patrick Cantlay, it is reasonable to suggest a man from the United States will be victorious this week.

Factor in Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Sam Burns, Brooks Koepka and Xander Schauffele and the crop of Americans only deepens. They will need to skirt past some of the larger European names in Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland and Rory McIlroy, but between the pressures on McIlroy for the career grand slam and the short-game woes for the other two, I do believe the doorway to be rather wide open for a home victor.

Masters Props: What Will Happen First, Tiger Woods Birdie or Bogey?

The pick: Bogey +115

Monday’s practice round was filled with Tiger Woods coverage and by all accounts, the Big Cat is swinging it well. Despite being a 15-time major champion and a five-time Masters champion, there will be moments of nervousness for the 46-year-old, who is more than a year removed from competition.

The Sportsbook hole at Augusta National is not the faintest of handshakes. Woods in fact has struggled on hole No. 1 throughout his career, often blasting his tee shot into the left pine straws. But if he is able to skirt past the first with a par, Nos. 2-3 will present a real birdie opportunity, although they are not gimmes.

If this wager is to go past the first three holes, it should only play into our hands as the next stretch of holes is the most difficult on the Sportsbook nine. Between the long par-3 fourth, the difficult par-4 fifth and the tricky par-3 sixth, I do believe bogey will be Woods’ first score of the non-par variety in Round 1.

Masters Prop: Hole-in-One in Round 4

The Pick: Yes (+200)

There is one hole that comes to mind when discussing a potential hole-in-one at Augusta National: the par-3 16th. Often yielding a funnel pin on Sunday, one has to look back to Woods’ famous chip-in at the 2005 Masters to understand the contours of this green.

With numerous holes-in-one courtesy of Justin Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau and others throughout the years, I am willing to chance yet another one will be converted in the final round. If it is not to be on the par-3 16th, the other potential hole would be the par-3 sixth on the Sportsbook nine. Much more difficult, this would be the last resort as I envision this wager cashing from one of the earlier tee times from those players not in the heat of the battle for the green jacket.
