Make Your Oscars Party More Exciting: Bet on the Winners

Actor Bradley Cooper attends the 'A Star is Born' Paris Photocall at Cinema Gaumont Capucine on October 1, 2018 in Paris, France.

The 91st Academy Awards are live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California on Sunday, February 24 and will air live on ABC. The most prestigious award of the night is Best Picture and betting odds have been released for those among us who want to turn their award predictions into profit.

Oddsmaker BetOnline has released betting odds on Best Picture and the wildly popular A Star is Born, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, is paying EVEN money to take home the prize. With an all-star supporting cast including Dave Chappelle, Andrew Dice Clay, Eddie Griffin and Alec Baldwin, A Star is Born is far and away the betting favorite.

Roma (+500)

The Spanish language film Roma will look to become the first Netflix-distributed movie to take home Best Picture. It will happen eventually, and whether or not it’s this year or sometime soon, Netflix, which already dominates the binge TV viewing market segment, will win the Best Picture.

Roma has near perfect rankings on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, was runner-up for the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and won the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival.

Popular with the Public

Black Panther (+1000), a superhero movie based off the Marvel Comics character, gained widespread acclaim as a blockbuster superhero movie without a white male protagonist. The Black Panther culture reached heights that not even the film’s creators could have hoped for with black youths, and youths of all races, identifying with the main character. It may not hit all the targets set forth by a selection committee, but it certainly hit with the public. Black Panther was the highest-grossing film in the U.S. and Canada in 2018.

Bohemian Rhapsody (+2500), the Freddie Mercury biopic, had a large studio push and, while certainly making money, is just the ninth-highest grossing film of the year worldwide. Critics have accused this film of not being fully true to the identities of Mercury and his Queen bandmates, and containing some factual errors and omissions, but the quality of the production and score is undeniable.
