Odds to Win Best Picture at the 2023 Oscars

The 95th Academy Awards are live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12 and will air live on ABC. The most prestigious award of the night is Best Picture, and betting odds have been released for those among us who want to turn their award predictions into profit.

Why Is ‘The Fabelmans’ (+150) Favored?

Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” is a coming-of-age drama starring Michelle Williams that earned high praise for viewers but wasn’t a critically successful hit. The film earned just over $11 million at the box office, although it was revered by critics for Spielberg’s fantasy storytelling and excellent ending.

Given the intimate nature of this film — it’s essentially a walk-through of Spielberg’s touching life story — there’s a strong chance it wins Best Picture, hence the +150 chalk status. 

Other Popular Nominees

High-grossing fan favorites such as “Avatar: The Way Of Water” (+800) and “Top Gun: Maverick” (+1200) killed it at the box office this year but didn’t earn enough critical acclaim to earn chalk spot on the Best Picture oddsboard. Those movies are fun-filled spectacles, but likely lack the edge and messaging of some of the other pieces.

It’s tough to bet against Spielberg, but I like “Everything Everywhere All At Once” to win Best Picture at +175. The plot is mind-bending, Michelle Yeoh’s performance is fantastic and the film generated a perfect blend of audience and critic enjoyment.
