Johnson Seeking Third Win at Kapalua

The 2021 edition of the Sentry Tournament of Champions is going to be a unique one. Because of the reduced number of PGA Tour tournaments due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, all qualifiers from last year’s Tour Championship are eligible to participate. As well, 28 men qualified for the Sentry Tournament of Champions thanks to their tour victories a year ago.

This is the first time Johnson is teeing it up since winning the Masters back in November. The 36-year-old is no stranger to success in Hawaii as a two-time winner of the Sentry Tournament of Champions. DJ ended 2020 by finishing no worse than T-6 in his final seven events, with three wins and three runner-up finishes in that span.

There are only five first-timers playing in the Sentry Tournament of Champions this time around, while 42 of the 45 eligible golfers are making the trip to Hawaii. Only Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton and Jim Herman decided not to participate.

Can Thomas Go Back to Back?

Thomas is back to defend his title after a thrilling victory in the 2020 Sentry Tournament of Champions. Patrick Reed’s fantastic 7-under 66 on the final day forced a playoff with Thomas, before Thomas’s birdie on the par-5 18th on the third extra hole bested Reed’s par, giving Thomas his second win at the event.

Patrick Cantlay, Rickie Fowler and Joaquin Niemann rounded out the top five at the 2020 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

The last four winners of the Sentry went on to finish in the top five of the FedExCup standings at the end of the season, showing that a good start to the year bodes well for season-long success.

Geoff Ogilvy’s back-to-back victories at the tournament in 2009 and 2010 mark the last time a golfer has won the Sentry Tournament of Champions in consecutive years.

Props

Golf is unique for many reasons, but one of them is the significant number of betting props available at weekly tournaments. The Sentry Tournament of Champions is no different.

Sportsbooks are offering odds on things like whether there will be a hole-in-one, OVER/UNDERs on the winning score for the eventual champion and odds on which players from specific countries will have the lowest score, to name a few.

Like other sports, betting on props is a fun and unique way to enhance your golf gambling experience.

Live Betting

Live Betting is arguably one of the most exciting ways to bet on golf. If the player you placed a pre-tournament bet on is out of the running at any point during the Sentry Tournament of Champions, you can bet on another golfer as the days go by and have another stake in the game.

If there are only a few men in the hunt on the final day, the odds likely won’t be significantly high, but your chances of winning are. We’ve seen this happen multiple times in the PGA Tour’s Return to Golf, as multiple tournaments have gone to a playoff.
