How To Bet The Belmont Stakes

How To Bet Belmont Stakes

This year’s first jewel of horse racing’s Triple Crown, the 152nd Belmont Stakes race, will be run on Saturday, June 20, 2020, and there are plenty of bets to be made online.

For the first time ever, the Belmont Stakes will be run almost three months ahead of the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes due to COVID-19. Post time will be at approximately 5:42 p.m. ET. The Derby was rescheduled for September 5, and the Preakness Stakes was moved to October 3 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Test of the Champion will be run at a shorter distance of a mile and an eighth (9 furlongs) compared to the Belmont Stakes’ usual mile-and-a-half distance to properly account for the racing schedule adjustments to the Triple Crown series, and overall calendar for three-year-olds in training. There won’t be any fans in attendance at the Belmont Stakes this year, and the purse has also been cut by a third to $1 million.

You can view 2020 Belmont Stakes betting odds at Bodog. Odds on Belmont Stakes contenders will appear like this:

  • • Tiz the Law -140
  • • Tap it to Win +600
  • • Dr. Post +900

The horse with the lowest odds is favored to win the Belmont Stakes and the rest of the horses are underdogs at Belmont Park. Jerome Park Racetrack used to be the home of the Belmont Stakes from 1867 until 1889, and Morris Park racecourse was the site of the Belmont Stakes from 1890 through 1904.

How Can I Bet On The Belmont Stakes?

If you’re looking for all the different ways you can win by betting on the Belmont Stakes online, you’ve come to the right spot! Let’s take a look at some of the best Belmont Stakes betting options below, shall we?!

Straight Bet: Win, Place, Show

If you’re looking to bet on the Belmont Stakes, but you don’t know how to bet on the race, win, place, show is perfect for novice horse bettors. Win, Place and Show are common Belmont Stakes bets you can make on a horse to win or finish in the top 3.

Win Betting

A win bet is a wager on a horse to finish first at the Belmont Stakes.

Place Betting

A place bet is a wager on a horse to finish first or second at the Belmont Stakes.

Show Betting

A show bet is a wager on a horse to finish in the money: third or better at the Belmont Stakes.

Across the Board

An across the board Belmont Stakes bet is a wager on a horse to win, place, and show at the Belmont Stakes. If the horse wins, the bettor collects three ways (win, place, and show). If the horse comes in second, the bettor collects two ways (place and show). And if the horse comes in third, the bettor collects one way (show), losing out on the win and place wagers.

The across the board bet is similar to a parlay bet in other sports. It's essentially three bets combined on one big ticket. In parlay betting, you could wager on:

  • • What will be the color of the winning horse at the Belmont Stakes?
  • • How old will the winning trainer be at the Belmont Stakes?
  • • Where will the winning horse start at the Belmont Stakes?

Belmont Stakes Horse Matchup Wagering

Instead of handicapping a field of 10 horses and picking a winner at the Belmont Stakes, matchups involve two horses in the field, with a moneyline that’s similar to what you’d find in other team sports. You bet on the horse you think will finish ahead of the other. It does not matter if that horse wins the Belmont Stakes.

The Belmont Stakes Futures Bet

A Belmont Stakes futures wager is when bettors wager on a winner several weeks or even months in advance of the big event. Horseplayers can get their Belmont Stakes betting action down early, and at fixed and often generous odds.

There are no refunds on scratches when it comes to future bets for the Belmont Stakes. You can tear up your ticket if the horse you bet on doesn’t make it to the big race.

Daily Double Wagering

A daily double bet is a wager where bettors pick the winner of two consecutive races.

Exacta Bets

An exacta bet, also known as a perfecta bet, is a wager in which bettors pick the top two finishers at the Belmont Stakes, in the exact order.

Trifecta Bets

A trifecta bet is a wager in which the first three finishers must be selected in exact order at the Belmont Stakes.

Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 6 Betting

Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 6 betting is a type of multi-race bet. A Pick 3 bet means you have to pick the winner of three races in a row. A Pick 4 bet means you have to predict four successive winners, and a Pick 6 bet means you need to pick the winner of six consecutive races.

Quinella Wagering

A quinella bet is a wager in which the first two finishers at the Belmont Stakes must be picked in either order. It’s similar to an exacta bet, only it doesn’t matter what order the two horses you pick come in at the Belmont Stakes. The payoff will be the same.
