While the Badgers have been winning lately, they haven't necessarily been blowing teams out. Not including its most recent triumph, a 98-71 drubbing of Penn State, Wisconsin's average margin of victory across the other four games of its current win streak is just 5.75 points. USC's back-to-back losses have come by an average of 5.5 points.
Neither team has been exceptionally effective at covering the spread in recent games. The Trojans are 4-5 ATS in their last 10, and the Badgers are 5-4-1 ATS in theirs, according to our college basketball betting database. Things have been a bit better in the more immediate past, though, with both going 3-1 ATS in their last four.
One of those ATS wins for USC is a big reason why I'm backing the Trojans. USC took on then-No. 5 Purdue two games ago and kept the game close, ultimately losing 69-64. The Boilermakers are fielding the 49th-ranked offense and 51st-ranked defense in the nation, compared to Wisconsin's 45th and 227th-ranked units, respectively. USC proving that it could keep things close against Purdue helps build confidence in it performing similarly against the Badgers.
