Sportsbook Odds Analysis
The Gators opened as 2.5-point underdogs, but early action came in heavily on the Bulldogs and drove the line up to Georgia -4.5. The total is set at 52.5 points on Saturday. The UNDER is 6-3 in the last nine meetings between Georgia and Florida.
Florida News & Notes
Florida had to wait three weeks to try to bounce back from its road loss to the Texas A&M Aggies as its home game against the LSU Tigers on October 17 was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak.
The Gators did indeed bounce back from that loss with a convincing 41-17 win over the Missouri Tigers as 13.5-point home favorites. Kyle Trask was outstanding in the win with 345 passing yards, four passing touchdowns and 47 rushing yards.
Trask has completed 68.3 percent of his passes in four games this season for 1,341 passing yards and owns a sparkling 18-to-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio in 2020 as well.
With Trevor Lawrence set to miss at least two games with his own bout with the coronavirus, the Heisman Trophy race has suddenly opened back up; a win over Georgia would put Trask’s name firmly in the conversation.
Georgia News & Notes
Georgia also bounced back from a loss on Saturday with a 14-3 win over the Kentucky Wildcats. The Bulldogs had to be happy with their performance on defense, allowing only three points to the Wildcats after allowing 41 points in a 41-24 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide two weeks before.
But offensively, Stetson Bennett threw only 13 passes for 131 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Zamir White shouldered the offense with 26 carries, 136 rushing yards and one touchdown on the ground.
The Bulldogs will be able to win most games relying on their defense and running game. But in a contest like Saturday’s matchup with the Gators, they may need Bennett to rise to the occasion with a big game, and he’ll need to be better than he’s been of late. Georgia’s junior quarterback is averaging 217.8 passing yards per game this season and has thrown five interceptions in his last two games.
Betting Pick: OVER 52.5 points
The Bulldogs have a clear advantage on defense in this one, but they won’t be able to completely shut down a quarterback as talented as Trask. Georgia’s offense should be able to produce points against Florida’s suspect defense, sending this game OVER its posted total.
- Florida is 7-1 SU in its last 8 games.
- Georgia is 11-0 in its last 11 November games.
- The OVER is 5-1 in Florida’s last 6 games.
