LSU vs Houston Odds & Picks: Plenty Of Missing Tigers In Texas Bowl

The Houston Cougars (9-3 SU, 8-4 ATS) face the LSU Tigers (7-5 SU, 4-8 ATS) in the Texas Bowl at NRG Stadium in Houston. As per our bowl odds page, the Cougars enter as 2.5-point favorites at FanDuel, with the total set at 41.5 points. With the firing of Brian Kelly and plenty of key players opting out of the game, LSU's roster is looking very different. Meanwhile, several seniors are sticking around in Houston to make one final appearance for the Cougars, giving them the stable edge.

LSU vs houston Pick

The Cougars finished the regular season 9-3 SU after winning just four games a year ago, looking to wrap up an impressive turnaround with a bow. Several seniors take the field for the final time at NRG Stadium like leading RB Dean Connors and TE Tanner Koziol.

Meanwhile, LSU reached bowl eligibility at 7-5 but endured a rocky season led to Brian Kelly being fired. Lane Kiffin takes over the reins next season, but interim head coach Frank Wilson will be leading the team in this game. I can't totally blame the Tigers, their seven losses coming against ranked opponents (Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Alabama and Oklahoma), three of which were in top-10 during kick-off.

But, LSU has struggled offensively, failing to score more than 25 points against an FBS opponent all season. Despite winning six of its last seven bowl games, LSU enters this matchup massively shorthanded; QB Garrett Nussmeier, CB Mansoor Delane, RB Kaleb Jackson, LB Whit Weeks and WR Aaron Anderson are either injured, in the portal or simply opting out.

Houston’s offense is all about balance. Dean Connors enters the game with 851 rushing yard, potentially eyeing a 1,000-yard season to bulk up his NFL Draft stock, a mark within reach against an LSU defense expected to be missing several starters.

Conner Weigman will play after a noble effort with the Cougars, collecting nearly 2,500 yards and 32 total touchdowns. The junior will face a weakened LSU secondary, without projected first-round CB Delane, who recorded 11 defended passes and two interceptions this season. Defensively, Houston has forced 12 interceptions this season, with Will James leading the group with three. The Cougars should have an easier time defending and gaining on a fractured LSU group.

LSU vs Houston Pick: Cougars -2.5 (-115)
