High-Octane Flames Offense Has Been Snuffed Out
After rattling off seven straight wins, the Calgary Flames looked to be well on their way to winning the Pacific Division. But thanks to back-to-back home losses, the Flames’ division lead over the San Jose Sharks sits at only three points. The Flames will look to increase their lead in Sin City tonight against the Vegas Golden Knights. Sportsbooks opened the Knights as -145 home favorites with a total of 6.
Flames vs Golden Knights Game Center
Standout Stats
- After allowing a combined eight goals over six games, Calgary has been outscored 10-4 by Minnesota and Toronto in its last two contests. It’s the first time the Flames have dropped consecutive games in regulation since mid-November. On the season, Calgary is 21-11-2 SU on the road.
- When the Western Conference clubs met on November 19, the Flames came away with a 7-2 rout of the Golden Knights. Matthew Tkachuk lit up Vegas in that game by scoring twice and collecting two assists. Tkachuk became the fifth Flames player with at least 62 points with a goal in Monday’s 6-2 setback to Toronto.
- Vegas goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 53 shots he faced while registering back-to-back shutouts against Vancouver and Anaheim to boost his league-leading total to eight. One of those shutouts came against the Flames in a 2-0 Vegas triumph on November 23.
- Flames netminder David Rittich was torched for all six goals against the Maple Leafs but he stopped 46 of 50 shots in splitting two starts vs Vegas in November. On the season, Rittich is 22-6-5 with a 2.66 goals-against average and .910 save percentage.
- Calgary has been an excellent OVER team at home this year, but it’s been a different story on the road. The Flames have gone UNDER in each of their past three road games with an average combined score of only 3.3 goals.
- Home-ice advantage has been non-existent for the Golden Knights when they’ve played good teams of late. In Vegas’ past six home contests against teams with winning records, they’re 1-5 SU and on the puckline. On the season, Vegas is 20-10-4 SU at T-Mobile Arena.
My best bet for Flames-Golden Knights
UNDER 6 goals
This game looks like a classic UNDER scenario to me. While Calgary’s goaltending has been shaky over the last week, Fleury has been the complete opposite and is paving the way for UNDERs in Vegas games.
The Golden Knights have gone UNDER in five of their previous seven overall heading into this one, while the Flames’ OVER/UNDER record on the road sits at 14-20 O/U. Don’t be surprised if another UNDER transpires tonight.
