NHL Live In-Game Betting Report. Paul Maurice sparks Panthers

NHL Live Betting: Maurice Meltdown Pushes Panthers To Success

Sometimes live betting is the right way to go for wagering on NHL games. And when you’re live-betting on the National Hockey League, you NEED to be consulting these two reports to go along with what you’re seeing.

The first table shows the records of all 32 teams when scoring first. The second table shows the teams’ records when allowing the first goal. With these reports and the good ole’ eye test, you’ll know what team is most likely to cough up the lead and what team might come back from a deficit.

Takeaways From ‘When Leading’ Table

New York Rangers (32-10)

Since these reports were last updated 10 days ago, the Rangers have gone 4-1-2 with all four wins coming when scoring first. They’re now up to 32-10 (76%) on the season when scoring first.

In those four recent wins, the Rangers outscored opponents 10-3 in the first period. Sure, it helps to face the bottom-dwelling Blue Jackets twice and the massively injured Washington Capitals, but we’ve often seen quality sides get humbled when they don’t try against these bottom teams late in the year.

Going into the playoffs, the Rangers will be happy to know that if they can get an early lead, they’re good enough to see out the game for a victory.

Pittsburgh Penguins (24-16)

As the Penguins battle to get back into the playoff picture, they’ve gone 4-3-0 in their seven games since the last update. Sidney Crosby’s men scored first in all four of those wins. That has been key to them staying in the hunt for a playoff spot so late into the season.

Pittsburgh is just a single point out of the final wild-card spot in the East. Even a single slip-up in those contests when taking the early lead would have effectively ended their season earlier than they had hoped.

Takeaways From ‘When trailing’ Table

Florida Panthers (12-24)

How about those Panthers? After getting absolutely berated by head coach Paul Maurice, they’ve turned their season around and are now in the first wild-card spot in the East. More importantly, they’ve picked up three massive wins after trailing first.

It was a season-saving rant by Maurice. Prior to that epic meltdown, the Panthers had only come back from a losing position nine times in 32 tries (39%).

Picking up points when trailing is tough. Looking at the table above, you’ll notice that very few teams are at 50 percent or better on the season. But being below 40 percent was why the Panthers – last year’s Presidents’ Trophy winners – were outside of the playoff picture until recently.

Calgary Flames (9-28)

I wish I could share the same success story about the Calgary Flames. And while they did pick up three wins from losing positions, they also picked up two losses since the last update. They now hold an abysmal 29 percent win percentage from a losing position on the season.

The Flames are only one point out of the final wild-card spot in the West, but Winnipeg has a game in hand. Again, losing games after trailing will happen more often than not – but not at the rate that Calgary has seen this year. The Flames find themselves staring at playoff elimination because of their lack of resiliency.
