Carolina is still the stingiest team in the league when it comes to allowing shots, allowing just 24.4 per game and tightening that even further to 20.8 over the last 10. Boston sits on the opposite end, conceding 30.9 shots per game and a 33.4 recently. Anaheim, Buffalo, Chicago and Edmonton all hover around the 29-30 shots-against range, but Edmonton’s recent spike to 29.6 suggests a short-term slump.

Carolina and Colorado are both firing off 33+ shots per game and staying hot lately (33.1 and 33.7 over their last 10). Detroit has jumped to 32.4 shots per game recently, while Buffalo, Florida, and Vegas are trending upwards too, each sitting around 29-30+ shots per game. On the other end of the spectrum, San Jose (24.3), Seattle (24.6), Montreal (24.9), and Chicago (25.7) are still not shooting as much, making them tough to trust for SOG props.

How To Use NHL Shots On Goal Report

I find the Shots Against report one of the most useful resources for my NHL shot props. If you want to bet the OVER on a certain player's shots tonight, check to see if they face a team that gives up a lot of SOGs.

But, more specifically, see how they do against the player's specific position. Teams have vastly different defensive capabilities against position groups based on system and personnel. For example, targeting a defender's shot prop OVER against a team that lets up lots of shots to D is a great strategy.
