Yankees vs Orioles Betting Odds August 26

Will the Real Severino Please Stand Up?

The New York Yankees complete their four-game series with the Baltimore Orioles tonight but may be a bit uneasy with third-year starter Luis Severino on the mound. Sevvie is coming off his best start in close to two months when he limited the Jays to only two earned runs but he still owns a 5.40 ERA in four starts in August. The Yanks opened as large -240 faves vs a squad with the worst record in MLB.

SHARK BITES
  • Luis Severino owns a 6.04 ERA over his last 9 starts.
  • The Yankees have won seven of their last eight games.
  • The OVER has hit in eight of the Yankees’ last nine games with Luis Severino as the starter.

Severino has Had an Awful Summer

Luis Severino was the frontrunner for the AL Cy Young award prior to July 1st and was the de facto ace of Yankees rotation. Since July 1st, he owns a 6.04 ERA in nine starts and the Yankees are 5-4 SU in those games. While that’s still a winning record, it’s a far cry from the dominance he showed up to that point when he owned a 2.10 ERA in his first 17 starts with the Yankees going 15-2 SU in those games. It’s worth noting that the Yankees are 9-4 SU in his 13 road starts in 2018 but it’s very troubling to watch this collapse of talent.

The Orioles will rely on Dylan Bundy to break their seven-game slide and to describe Bundy’s performance in August can be summed up in one word: Awful. The 25-year-old owns an eyesore of an ERA at 9.74 in four starts this month with the Orioles dropping each of those games. Bundy has faced the Yankees once this season and he got rocked for five hits and five earned runs in four innings before getting the hook.

If it wasn’t for the Red Sox, Yankees would be best in MLB

It may be tough luck that the Yankees have to share the AL East with the best team in baseball but that’s the reality when you’re in an arms race every offseason with a surplus of cash. The Yankees own the second-best record in MLB despite trailing the Red Sox by seven games in the division and have won seven of the last 10 games vs the Orioles. In the first three games on this series, the Yanks outscored the Orioles 22-9.

OVER Bettors Cashing with Severino on the Mound

The total opened at 8.5 and while the Orioles haven’t managed much offense this month (3.7 runs per game), the OVER may be the profitable angle in this tilt. The OVER has hit in eight of the Yankees’ last nine games with Luis Severino as the starter with an average combined score of 12 runs per game. When you factor in that Bundy has allowed 40 earned runs over his last eight starts, the Yankees may crush this OVER by themselves.
