Which CFB Teams Could Go Undefeated?
Ohio State Buckeyes
The No. 2-ranked Buckeyes regularly go undefeated in the Big Ten Conference, compiling an unbeatable record in five of the last 10 seasons. In 2021, they went 8-1 in the conference and finished 11-2 overall, a record that left them out of the College Football Playoff.
Ohio State’s elite offense, which averaged 45.7 points per game last season, is what makes them the favorite to go undefeated this year. Heisman Trophy favorite QB C.J. Stroud was among the best in the nation a year ago. The junior will look to build off his 4,435 passing yards and 71.9 percent completion rate.
They have leaders in rusher TreVeyon Henderson, who was top 25 with 1,248 rushing yards, and receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, whose 1,606 receiving yards were third highest in the country in 2021.
Overall, the Buckeyes have posted a perfect regular-season record four times since 1995, falling just short of the Alabama Crimson Tide, who have done it five times.
At +150, there’s still a decent profit to be made with a bet on arguably this Big Ten powerhouse.
Georgia Bulldogs
The reigning champs went 14-1 in 2021, with their only loss coming to Alabama. Georgia also went 8-0 within its conference for the first time since 1982. The Bulldogs haven’t had a perfect record in the regular season since 1980, but the drive to defend their title could change that narrative.
Five defenders off Georgia’s No. 1-ranked defense were picked during the first round of the NFL draft, including Nakobe Dean and Jordan Davis. They also are without their top two rushers from last season, Zamir White and James Cook.
But the roster churn doesn’t mix up everything. QB Stetson Bennett, the offensive MVP of the national championship game, is back and RBs Kenny McIntosh and Kendall Milton won’t be overshadowed again. Despite losing so many to the NFL, the Dawgs still have a stacked roster to potentially go undefeated.
Georgia won’t face a top-10 school in the upcoming regular season either so that automatically gives the team an advantage to favorably tilt its record.
Alabama Crimson Tide
We don’t have to dig too deep into our memory to recall Alabama’s last undefeated season. In 2020, the Crimson Tide held a perfect 13-0 record and of course went on to win the national championship. In 27 years, Alabama has gone undefeated in the regular season five times, the most of any school.
Since becoming the head coach in 2007, Nick Saban has led his team to a perfect record four times (2009, 2016, 2018, 2020). In addition, his team has been one win away from being undefeated in six of 15 seasons under Saban.

Per ESPN, Alabama has the seventh-toughest schedule in college football this year. A Texas tornado could possibly destroy a chance for a clean record. The Texas Longhorns and Steve Sarkisian, Alabama’s former offensive coordinator, will visit in Week 2. Then, October features the Texas A&M Aggies, who beat the Tide last season, visiting too.
Quarterback Bryce Young, the 2021 Heisman Trophy Sportsbook, and LB Will Anderson Jr. will be the difference-makers in the important games. Young completed 66.9 percent of his tosses for 4,872 yards, the second-best in the nation, while Anderson topped the country with 17.5 sacks.
If Alabama manages to take control of those two matchups, then it should be smooth sailing to undefeated territory. At +300, there’s excellent value in betting Saban’s Tide to dodge any losses this year.
