One-Win Redskins and Haskins Small Home Faves Vs Two-Win Jets

For better or worse, the Washington Redskins (1-8) will start rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins for the rest of the season, beginning with Sunday’s home game against the New York Jets (2-7). Can the Redskins become the second NFC East team to beat the Jets this year?

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The decision to start Haskins from here on out had to be done for Washington to see what it has in its first-round draft pick. But bettors are salivating to fade him and the Redskins, so do not be surprised to see this game close at a pick’em with the line already heading that way.

New York News & Notes

New York head coach Adam Gase is still on the hot seat despite last week’s victory, and losing at Washington would make it even hotter since his team has also fallen to Miami.

The question is, will the Redskins be rejuvenated after their bye week or play the same way? Haskins is clearly not an NFL-ready player at this point, unlike fellow rookie Daniel Jones of the Giants, and he could not even hold off the Jets on Sunday.

Historically, Washington has been terrible off a bye too, going 3-8 straight up and 2-9 against the spread in its last 11 dating back to 2008. With a lame-duck head coach in Bill Callahan and a potential bust under center in Haskins, New York has no excuses not to improve to 3-1 vs the NFC East.

Washington News & Notes

The Redskins are easily the worst team in their division, and the Jets have already beaten better teams from the NFC East in the Giants and Dallas Cowboys. That should be concerning for Washington, especially with Haskins getting the call in this spot.

New York is not particularly scary offensively, with running back Le’Veon Bell and quarterback Sam Darnold both failing to meet expectations right now. But each of them can play and play well, while the Redskins simply do not have the same caliber of talent outside of rookie wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who has been one of the team’s very few bright spots with 52 catches for 497 yards and five touchdowns. If only they had more playmakers like him.

Betting Pick: Jets +100 Moneyline

The Jets showed some resilience and character last week in jumping out to an early 14-0 lead, falling behind and then rallying for a late victory against the Giants. The Redskins are a far less dangerous opponent now and have been known to perform poorly after a bye week.
