NFL Week 3 Computer Predictions

Fresh off a blistering 8-7-1 performance against the spread in Week 2 (11-5 over/under!), the OddsShark NFL Computer is poised for another winning week, highlighted by a series of contrarian picks on double-digit favorites and a stunning upset in San Francisco.

Historically, NFL favorites laying double-digits have not fared well, going 89-108-3 against the spread since 2008. But the Computer believes two out of three double-digit favorites this week will cover the number, including 20-point favorite Seattle.

The biggest NFL favorite in years, the Seahawks should cruise past the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars, who have yet to score a touchdown this season, the Computer points out.

The Denver Broncos, who are 15-point home favorites over the Oakland Raiders, are expected to cover in a high-scoring Monday night game. It will be the Broncos’ first game without starting left tackle Ryan Clady, who was lost for the season with an injury. Will Denver be able to protect Peyton Manning? The Computer certainly believes so and projects the Broncos to put up 42 points in a game that sails OVER the total.

The only double-digit favorite the Computer sees failing to cover is the San Francisco 49ers. In fact, the Computer has the 10-point underdog Colts winning outright over a 49ers team that was embarrassed by the Seahawks in Week 2. It’s a giant contrarian pick, especially since the 49ers are a perfect 7-0 straight-up (5-2 ATS) after a loss under coach Jim Harbaugh.

In addition to the Colts, the Computer sees a handful of other underdogs pulling off outright upsets.

The Computer foresees Washington’s struggles continuing against the underdog Detroit Lions, who are predicted to cruise to a 28-14 win.

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to knock off the Philadelphia Eagles in Andy Reid’s return to Philly. Reid, now coach of the Chiefs, spent over a decade with the Eagles, before being replaced by Chip Kelly.

The surprising Buffalo Bills have a good shot a pulling off the upset over the favored New York Jets in a battle of AFC East teams that are both off to 2-0 starts against the spread.
