  • Since their dominant season-opening win over the Detroit Lions, the New York Jets have dropped three straight ahead of a Week 5 matchup with the Denver Broncos. Sam Darnold and company will be looking to get back into the win column on Sunday. Sportsbooks opened the Jets as 1-point home favorites with a total of 42.5.

    • The Broncos are 1-10 SU and ATS in their last 11 games on the road.

    Jets haven’t been getting the job done against the Broncos

    The Jets turned in an embarrassing performance in a 31-12 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week to fall to 1-3 on the year. New York has given up eight scores since the game vs the Lions and will be in tough against a Denver team that’s had its number of late. The Broncos are 3-0 SU in their last three games against the Jets with an average winning margin of 13.7 points.

    Another factor bettors need to consider before backing the Jets is their struggles when playing in the early slate of Sunday games. In New York’s past 11 contests in the early afternoon, the team is 1-10 SU. The Jets are a much better bet at home compared to on the road, however, as they’ve gone 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games.

    Should the short week worry Broncos bettors?

    The Broncos are coming off a 27-23 home loss to the AFC West-leading Kansas City Chiefs in Monday Night Football and will be in a tough spot due to the short week. Due to the early window, Denver will be playing at 11 a.m. on Mountain time, and the Broncos are a brutal 1-10 SU and ATS in their last 11 road games.

    Denver is on a two-game losing streak and the Case Keenum experiment under center hasn’t gone as smoothly as Broncos bettors would like. The defense looks solid yet the offense is inconsistent, which could be a solid recipe for OVERs. After all, the OVER is 5-1 in Denver’s past six at MetLife Stadium.

    My pick: take the Broncos on the road

    While Denver’s aforementioned road record leaves something to be desired, most of those losses came during the woeful 2017 campaign in which the team was led by Trevor Siemian. The Jets shouldn’t be favored against many teams right now regardless of whether they’re at home or not, so expect the Broncos to bounce back in Week 5.
