Patrick Mahomes went 24-for-43 with only 177 passing yards, two touchdown passes and one interception in the loss. Mahomes has now gone back-to-back games with under 200 passing yards after averaging 282.1 passing yards per game through Kansas City’s first eight games this season.

Kansas City is 1-2 SU and ATS in its last three games since going 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS in its previous six games. The Chiefs are 5-0 SU and 3-2 ATS in their last five road games against the Raiders.

Las Vegas played well on defense and covered the spread as 14-point underdogs in a 20-13 loss on the road against the Miami Dolphins last Sunday. Aiden O’Connell went 24-for-41 with 271 passing yards, one passing touchdown and three interceptions while Davante Adams was the team’s leading receiver with seven catches for 82 yards and a touchdown.

The Raiders have looked like a totally different team in three games under interim head coach Antonio Pierce. Las Vegas allowed 28 points per game and went 0-2 SU and ATS prior to former head coach Josh McDaniels being fired. Since then, the Raiders have allowed only 12.7 points per game on defense and are 2-1 SU and 3-0 ATS.

The Keys to Victory: Chiefs

Offensive production has rarely been an issue for the Chiefs in the Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes era. But, with an average of only 19.4 points per game in the team’s last five games, Kansas City’s offense isn’t currently the threat that it has been in past years.

The Chiefs rank fourth in the NFL in total defense allowing 283.2 total yards per game and third in scoring defense allowing 16.4 points per game. Kansas City’s elite defense and clear edge at quarterback with Mahomes over rookie Aiden O’Connell should be enough to secure an outright win, but covering this large spread on the road will require the offense to execute better than it has been in recent weeks.

The Keys to Victory: Raiders

Las Vegas looked like a vastly improved team in wins over the New York Giants and New York Jets, but the defensive effort against Miami’s top-ranked offense was particularly impressive even though it came in a loss. There’s no reason to believe that the team’s strong play on defense won’t continue on Sunday, especially with a newly rejuvenated home crowd behind it.

Unfortunately, for as well as the Raiders have played on defense, they have still scored 16 points or fewer in four of their last five games. Aiden O’Connell has shown bright spots here and there but is not ready to be a difference-maker. To keep this one in striking distance, the Raiders will need O’Connell to be much safer with the football than he was last week, and for the defense to keep playing great.
