  • The undefeated Los Angeles Rams have established themselves as the undisputed Super Bowl front-runners through five weeks and go up against a Denver Broncos team that’s coming off a 34-16 blowout at the hands of the New York Jets last week. Sportsbooks opened the Rams as 7-point road favorites with a total of 52.5.

    Rams have a major edge under center

    The Rams are no strangers to beating teams out west, having topped the Oakland Raiders 33-13, the Arizona Cardinals 34-0, the Los Angeles Chargers 35-23 and the Seattle Seahawks 33-31. The last time the Rams faced Denver was on November 16, 2014, when they were still in St. Louis, with the Rams coming out on top 22-7. Jared Goff has thrown his name into the MVP conversation, averaging 345 yards per game in the air and tossing 12 touchdown passes.

    L.A. has been a great bet in this spot, as the Rams are 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS when playing in the late-afternoon slate of games. It hasn’t mattered when they’ve played lately, however, as the 5-0 Rams possess an average winning margin of 15 points this season. The Rams are 3-2 ATS as a result.

    Broncos are looking lost on both sides of the ball

    Broncos fans have become increasingly frustrated with head coach Vance Joseph, and last week’s brutal loss to the Jets brought that sentiment to a boiling point. The offense looked lifeless and the defense was routinely gashed by New York running backs Bilal Powell and Isaiah Crowell, as Denver bettors continue to lose money.

    In the Broncos’ last 17 games, they’re 2-14-1 ATS. On the year, the Broncos are 0-4-1 ATS – bad enough to make them the worst bet in the NFL. Tough times in Denver, indeed.

    My pick: take the OVER

    In the Rams’ past 10 road games, the OVER is 8-2. Considering Denver’s defense just gave up 34 points to the Jets, the Rams and their top-ranked offense should be in for a field day when it comes to putting points on the scoreboard. The Broncos are a much better team at home than they are on the road and I think this game might be closer than oddsmakers are expecting, so I’m on the OVER instead.
