Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner (30) is shown in NFL action against the Tennessee Titans in a game on Sunday, October 25, 2020.

Unbeaten Steelers Visit Skidding Cowboys as Double-Digit Road Favorites

The Pittsburgh Steelers (7-0) will try to remain the NFL’s only perfect team on Sunday when they visit the Dallas Cowboys (2-6), who are the lone team in the league that has yet to cover the spread. The Cowboys dropped to 0-8 against the spread last Sunday night when they lost 23-9 to the Philadelphia Eagles as 10-point road underdogs, while the Steelers upset the Baltimore Ravens 28-24 as 4-point road dogs earlier in the day.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

It took a while for sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark to post lines on this game due to the fact that injured Dallas quarterback Andy Dalton was also just put on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Dalton missed last week’s loss at Philadelphia due to a concussion but was hoping to return here until this latest setback. Pittsburgh has not been a double-digit favorite on the road since December 9, 2018. The Steelers lost that game 24-21 to the Raiders, falling to 1-12 ATS in that scenario going back to 1993. The line only figures to go up while the total might go down with scoring a potential issue.

Pittsburgh News & Notes

Pittsburgh owns a two-game lead in the AFC North now thanks to its win at Baltimore. The Steelers enter the easiest part of their schedule before meeting the Ravens again, facing the Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars in consecutive weeks.

Because the Steelers have already had their bye week, bettors should probably be a little cautious in backing them with inflated lines and the possibility that head coach Mike Tomlin will likely look to get his players plenty of rest down the stretch in preparation for a potential Super Bowl run.

Pittsburgh will go as far as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger can take the six-time Super Bowl champs, and looking across the field at how Dallas has fared since losing Dak Prescott is an easy reminder of how quickly things can change.

Dallas News & Notes

The hits just keep on coming for the Cowboys, with Dalton’s placement on the reserve/COVID-19 list making a bad team even worse at this point.

Everyone who watched the Week 8 Sunday Night Football matchup saw that rookie quarterback Ben DiNucci is not the answer as a viable replacement. DiNucci completed 21 of 40 passes for 180 yards with no interceptions, but he was sacked four times by the Eagles. Garrett Gilbert or Cooper Rush is expected to start for Dallas at quarterback this weekend.

That level of play at one of the most important positions in football makes it so much easier for opposing defenses to focus on stopping the run. In other words, the Steelers will be able to key on Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, and they already rank fifth in the league in that category.

Betting Pick: UNDER 42

This is a no-brainer considering Pittsburgh will simply want to leave Dallas with a win. Elliott will try to run against the Steelers, who are giving up just 96.9 rushing yards per game. Counterpart James Conner will also look to carry the load for Pittsburgh to keep Roethlisberger upright. Points will be at a premium, making this a low-scoring affair. Go UNDER.
