Cowboys vs Lions Odds & Picks Week 14: Detroit Rebounds on TNF

The Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions meet on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 14 of NFL action. Both teams are on the outside of the playoff picture, and both are likely to view this as a must-win game. The Cowboys are 6-5-1 and trailing the 8-4 Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East, and the Lions are 7-5 behind the 8-3-1 Green Bay Packers and 9-3 Chicago Bears in the NFC North. Detroit is a 3.5-point favorite in this matchup that has a total of 54.5 points after being 53.5 earlier this week.

Cowboys vs Lions Pick

Lions ML, -164 at FanDuel

Both teams need this win, but only one franchise will add one to its win total. I like the Lions a bit more than the Cowboys, in large part thanks to Detroit's success as a favorite. The Lions are 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games as favorites of at least three points, according to our NFL betting database. Detroit has also been very successful after losses over the last few years, and Detroit took its most recent loss on Thanksgiving last Thursday. The Lions are 14-0 SU and 13-1 ATS following losses since November 2022.

Dallas has also struggled a bit as an underdog of at least three points. The Cowboys are 4-5-1 SU in their last 10 games that fit that parameter, per our database. However, Dallas' 7-3 ATS record in such games has me shying away from taking Detroit to cover. The Cowboys' offense is also explosive enough (first in total yards per game with 375.4, second in points per game with 29.3) that a backdoor cover is in play if things are close entering the final quarter. Detroit's defense ranks around the middle of the league in both yards (316.2) and points (22.8) surrendered per contest, but it's conceded more than 22.8 points in five of its last eight games, including each of its last two.

The Lions were also victorious against the Cowboys in their last matchup. Detroit won 47-9 in October 2024, with quarterback Jared Goff throwing for 315 yards and three touchdowns in the win. The Lions also ran for 184 yards as a team. Defensively, the Cowboys rank 29th in total yards allowed (376.2) and 31st in points allowed per game (28.5) this season. The Lions rank third in both total yards (376.3) and points (29.2) per game this campaign, which could lead to a similarly explosive outing for the Detroit offense.

*Pick made Dec. 1st at 2:24 pm ET prior to line movement. Detroit's moneyline odds have shifted a bit. The first noted shift was a beneficial slide, but the second slide has cost us a bit of value.

Cowboys vs Lions Prop Pick

CeeDee Lamb Anytime TD, +105 at FanDuel

Getting plus-money for Lamb to score is great value. The Cowboys (21) are the only team that's allowed more receiving touchdowns to wide receivers than the Lions (19) have, and the Lions gave up four total to Dontayvion Wicks, Christian Watson, and Romeo Doubs last week. Lamb is a more talented player than those three, and he's averaged 12.3 targets per game in three previous matchups against the Lions. I expect him to see a ton of volume and find the end zone at least once on Thursday.
