Super Bowl 55 Odds: Chiefs Favored to Repeat

Super Bowl 55 Betting Odds

The dust has barely settled at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami where the Kansas City Chiefs scored a 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl 54. However, let’s not dwell on the past – online sportsbooks have already looked to the future and have the Chiefs as the +600 favorites to return to the Super Bowl at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa in 2021 and win back-to-back Lombardi Trophies.

Bovada has the Kansas City Chiefs as the +600 favorite to win Super Bowl 55. They’re followed by the Baltimore Ravens and the reigning NFC champion San Francisco 49ers at +800 each, the New Orleans Saints at +1000, the New England Patriots at +1100, the Los Angeles Chargers and Green Bay Packers at +1600, the Dallas Cowboys at +1800, the Pittsburgh Steelers at +2200 and the Atlanta Falcons at +2500 to round out the top 10 teams on the oddsboard.

Why Are the Chiefs Favored to Win Super Bowl 55?

For all intents and purposes, the explosive Kansas City offense will remain intact for next season – notably, QB Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and No. 1 WR Tyreek Hill will all be back with the club. The same may not be said on the defensive side of the ball as there are a few key cogs who are unrestricted free agents such as DE Chris Jones, DB Bashaud Breeland and DT Mike Pennel.

Since Patrick Mahomes took over under center in Week 17 of 2017, all Kansas City has done is win, going 28-8, including a berth in the AFC championship game in his first full year as the starter and a Super Bowl victory as an encore performance. With a dynamic offense and Andy Reid on the sideline, it’s hard not to see this team among the top teams in the league with “Super Bowl contenders” next to their name once again all season.

What Team(s) Are Providing Better Value Than the Chiefs?

There are a couple of teams that I think are providing better value than Kansas City to win Super Bowl 55 and they are the Pittsburgh Steelers at +2200 and the New England Patriots at +1100.

Pittsburgh fell just one game shy of making the playoffs in 2019 and did so without starting QB Ben Roethlisberger, who suffered a season-ending elbow injury in the second game of the year. The team also dealt with the departure of Antonio Brown and an injury to running back James Conner. The defense was stout, especially after they brought in safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Look for this team to be dangerous in 2020.

As for the Patriots, obviously the biggest question mark is who will be under center in Week 1. I’m of the belief that Tom Brady will return, especially after it was announced that offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels would be back for another year. This team will reload and with Bill Belichick as the head coach, you simply can’t count out New England.

But what about the team that faced Kansas City in the Super Bowl? The 49ers are tied for second on the oddsboard with the Baltimore Ravens and I think that’s exactly where they should be. There are a lot of defensive players who are free agents, notably Jimmie Ward, Arik Armstead and Emmanuel Moseley. That said, San Fran should have about $21 million to help re-sign some players and with defensive rookie of the year Nick Bosa having more experience under his belt, this team should be feisty in the always tough NFC.
