A Game 7 has been forced in each of the last three series between the Bruins and the Leafs. Boston came out on top in each of those matchups, a painful reminder for Toronto fans.

All three of the Game 7's were held at TD Garden. In the last three series, Boston has won 58.3% of the meetings when hosting Toronto in the postseason. Finishing second in the Atlantic Division, Boston will snag home ice advantage this year, too. The Bruins have also dropped just a single series-opener (2018-19) in that span.

Boston is riding a favorable six series winning streak against Toronto.

The four regular season outings definitely make a case for Boston entering the series in favored territory. The Leafs haven't defeated the Bruins since November 2022.

However, the first two meetings this season were decided in overtime and a shootout.

Notable Player Performances

Joseph Woll: Starting in between the pipes the three most recent meetings, Woll is averaging a .865SV% against the Bruins this year.

Jake DeBrusk: DeBrusk has been decorated on the scoresheet in all four meetings with Toronto this season. The winger has pocketed a season-high six points versus the Leafs.

Brad Marchand: Marchand lives in Toronto's head rent-free, also notching at least one point in all four occasions the last six months. Push this even further, Marchand is one-point shy of averaging a point-per-game in his 53 career meetings with Toronto.

Auston Matthews: With 69 goals on the season, it's safe to say Matthews is a sniper to be cautious of. Though, the 26-year-old has went pointless in his last two outings against the Bruins. However, with 12 goals and nine assists in 19 games, it's safe to say the rivalry fuels Matthews. There's no stress about him going quiet in the postseason either as he picked up six points in the last best-of-seven series.

This will be the 17th playoff series between these Original Six groups, the all-time series record being an even 8-8. However, as I previously mentioned, it's been over six decades since Toronto has clinched a series over Boston.

Across the last three series, the OVER has cashed in every Game 7. On the flip side, the UNDER or a push has hit in the last three series-openers.

Dating across the same span, the Leafs have won Game 5 in every series, winning each game by one-goal.

boston vs toronto playoff series expert pick: bruins (-125), Bruins 4-3 (+430)

Don't get it twisted, let's not tread lightly on Toronto's offense averaging a league-high 3.71 GPG. But, the goaltending tandem of Jeremy Swayman (.916SV%, 2.53 GAA) and Linus Ullmark (.915SV%, 2.58 GAA) is the most reliable in the league, each sporting almost identical stats.

I don't want to be the person to bring up the past but we can't ignore the obvious heading into this series. Boston has way less to prove based on recent playoff history while Toronto is always accused of choking in the postseason.

This will be a fiery series, each team carrying a 100-plus point star and a handful of scoring threats. But, for me, it's the goaltending that will make a difference just like it did in the regular season.
