The Atlanta Hawks are one of the more fascinating teams in basketball, having seemingly cracked the code this offseason to finally break through in the Eastern Conference after four-straight seasons of finishing no better than the No. 7 seed and winning no more than two games in the playoffs. An Indiana Pacers-esque run deep into the postseason could be in store, but we don't live in a perfect world, and everything has to go according to plan for such potential to be reached.
This 2025-26 NBA season preview takes a look at all betting odds for the Hawks who've quietly assembled the best team Trae Young has ever had to work with, but one that needs a lot to go in its favor along the way.

Best Bet: Atlanta Hawks to win Southeast Division, +170
Atlanta has spent years creating a defensive barrier around Young in the form of athletic, lengthy forwards who can compensate for the liability the four-time All-Star is in that department. "The Great Barrier Thief" Dyson Daniels was perhaps the biggest revelation in 2024-25 after capturing Most Improved Player honors and finishing second in Defensive Player of the Year voting, while Zaccharie Risacher showed immense promise during the latter stages of the campaign and was ultimately the Rookie of the Year runner-up. The return of borderline All-Star Jalen Johnson after he missed more than half of the season due to shoulder surgery fortifies this group even further, but it's the summer additions of Kristaps Porzingis, Luke Kennard, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker which explains why former skeptics are finally prepared to give the Hawks a puncher's chance in the East.
The question now becomes whether or not Young is the right player to lead this group towards the Larry O'Brien trophy, as he's eligible for a supermax extension next summer worth upwards of $350 million if he cracks an All-NBA team for the first time since 2022. Superstars don't grow on trees, and Atlanta is anything but a destination for the biggest names in the Association, so the new-look front office must be prepared to shell out a fortune for the sharpshooting guard if this season can justify such an investment. Moving down 10 spots in the 2025 draft also landed the franchise an unprotected 2026 first rounder which is the more favorable of either the Milwaukee Bucks or New Orleans Pelicans, and with New Orleans having just finished with the fourth-worst overall record, the Hawks could end up with an incredibly high pick in what's a top-heavy 2026 class and use that to replace Young if need be.
A Southeast Division title has evaded Atlanta since 2021, but only one game separated it from the Orlando Magic last season, although Orlando has also made significant strides towards improving in the win-loss column. The x-factor for the Hawks in terms of how far it could go is Porzingis, who was hindered by a mystery illness in what turned out to be his final season with the Boston Celtics, but looked every bit his old self throughout the EuroBasket competition while representing Latvia. The Magic will be constantly looking over their shoulder as Atlanta should be right on their heels from start to finish if it doesn't pass them outright, so take the plus-money value for this future while you can.
Atlanta Hawks 2025-26 NBA Win Total, Make Playoffs Odds
| Team | Win Total | OVER | UNDER | Odds To Make Playoffs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Atlanta Hawks | 47.5 | -105 | -115 | -750 |
Odds as of October 9, 2025 at FanDuel Sportsbook
Best Bet: UNDER 47.5 wins, -115
If the Hawks can reach an OVER for this prop and finish with at least 48 victories, it will mark exactly 10 years since the team last managed to pull that off after going 48-34 in 2015-16. Atlanta has hovered above and below the .500 mark each of the last four seasons, so this number represents a noteworthy jump likely stemming from the aforementioned acquisitions.
This organization is no stranger to dramatic year-over-year turnarounds, going from 20 to 41 wins in 2021 and 38 to 60 in 2015, so moving from 40 to 48 feels like child's play. Still, finishing with 46 or 47 wins would still be viewed with enthusiasm from the Hawks' end, and sometimes these types of numbers get a touch too high for the liking of some bettors. That's certainly the case here.

Best Bet: Dyson Daniels for NBA Defensive Player of the year, +2000
Let's make one thing abundantly clear: If Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs can meet eligibility, he will win 2026 Defensive Player of the Year, as the only reason he didn't run away with the Hakeem Olajuwon trophy in 2025 was because of a blood clot issue. Oklahoma City Thunder big man Chet Holmgren would have challenged him for the hardware had he stayed healthy, as well, so while Daniels' second-place finish was a remarkable story, there has to be a degree of transparency here in noting that there were several outside factors involved.
Even so, what Daniels accomplished after being a relative afterthought in the Big Easy undoubtedly put him on the basketball map. He led the league in total steals (229) and steals per game (3.0), with his 5.8 deflections per game being 1.6 more than any other player. Had he prevailed over eventual winner Evan Mobley, Daniels would have become just the second backcourt player (Marcus Smart, 2022) to be Defensive Player of the Year since 2022. A 20-to-1 shot doesn't put him high atop the leaderboard, and voters gravitate towards bigs who protect the rim and block shots, but coming close to replicating his 2024-25 production will keep Daniels in these discussions and make him undeniable.
