Giannis Antetokounmpo's apparent commitment to the Milwaukee Bucks at a time when media pundits and general managers from around the Association were anticipating his departure is admirable, but such loyalty can be a curse when maintaining relationships which are no longer beneficial to all parties. That appears to be the case here for a team that's one of the biggest question marks in the Eastern Conference, with the only upside stemming from Antetokounmpo's presence.
This 2025-26 NBA season preview will analyze all betting odds pertaining to the Bucks as they continue to try and keep the Greek Freak happy despite the trajectory of the franchise being on somewhat of a downward slope.

Since hoisting the Larry O'Brien trophy in 2021, the Bucks have had their dreams of a second championship this era dashed early and often with three consecutive exits in the opening round of the playoffs after bowing out in the conference semifinals of 2022. Antetokounmpo has stated in the past how significant a second ring would be to his legacy, not wanting to rest on the laurels of ending Milwaukee's prior 50-year drought. As generational a talent as the two-time league Most Valuable Player is, his first career title didn't come to fruition without the contributions of Jrue Holiday, Khris Middleton, and Brook Lopez, but they're now with the Portland Trail Blazers, Washington Wizards, and Los Angeles Clippers, respectively.
Looking at the help currently surrounding Antetokounmpo, the group of Kyle Kuzma, former Indiana Pacer Myles Turner, and Kevin Porter Jr. isn't the supporting cast that gets you back to the Finals. Damian Lillard was supposed to be the second fiddle to Antetokounmpo's main attraction, but like Tyrese Haliburton and Jayson Tatum, an Achilles injury will keep him out of action for the 2025-26 campaign, and that ultimately led to the nine-time All-Star getting bought out of his deal. Who will be the next player to step up and fill a void left by someone who was averaging 24.9 points per game when healthy? That's going to have to come from some combination of the aforementioned teammates, unfortunately, because no one currently on the roster has a track record of being a viable No. 2 in a winning situation. Turner is the likeliest candidate as one of the better stretch bigs in the sport who plays both ends well, but this is a huge ask of someone whose had his scoring drop year over year since 2023 along with his efficiency.
If things go south for the Bucks, rumors will quickly circulate once again over Antetokounmpo's displeasure and how his mindset over his future may have shifted. That's the one storyline anyone outside of the Wisconsin area can sink their teeth into this season, because the team is no longer hovering around that upper tier of the Eastern Conference. Any success they experience will be primarily by Antetokounmpo's doing, as always, barring some sort of unforeseen ascension or acquisition which gives their cornerstone the assistance he desperately requires. Sadly, there's nothing to see here beyond that.

Best Bet: UNDER 42.5 Wins, -120
Milwaukee hasn't won 42 or fewer games since 2017, and that even includes some of the Covid-shortened campaigns, as well. Its overall winning percentage has also been on a slight decline, and on paper, this is the weakest group they've trotted out in a hot minute. Even with the East having some of its heaviest hitters succumb to shapeshifting roster blows, the room for growth from the likes of the Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, Toronto Raptors, and Philadelphia 76ers means the Bucks are going to have to fight tooth and nail to simply preserve their spot.
This is one of the more boom or bust wagers out there in this market. Milwaukee is 363-168 with Antetokounmpo active since 2017-18, and he's forever the ultimate x-factor, but with the amount of uncertainty surrounding what constitutes the rest of the depth chart, an UNDER doesn't feel all that farfetched.

Best Bet: Giannis Antetokounmpo for nBA Most Valuable Player, +1200
The last time Antetokounmpo didn't finish in the top four for Most Valuable Player voting was back in 2018. In the last five years since capturing his last MVP win in 2020, he's finished third on three occasions and fourth the two others. He's going to remain at the forefront of these conversations simply on his unworldly numbers, having averaged better than 30 points per game and 11.5 rebounds each of the last three seasons. Antetokounmpo's 6.5 assists also tied his career best, and he converted better than 60 percent from the field for a second year in a row.
If the Bucks can somehow maintain the status quo, which would be an achievement considering the circumstances, Antetokounmpo's stock would climb even higher. Compared to the Nikola Jokic's and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's of the world, the talent gap between Antetokounmpo and those around him is much, much larger. No one else on Milwaukee has ever been an All-Star, which also rings true on Denver, yet Jamal Murray would still be the best player on either roster outside of the two superstars.
