Anthony Davis, Dallas Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks 2025-26 NBA Season Preview, Betting Odds

Emerging from the rubble of one of the most controversial trades in NBA history is a Dallas Mavericks team that's since been blessed by the Basketball Gods, landing the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft and using it to take highly-touted prospect Cooper Flagg. Perhaps it's an unjust reward after unceremoniously dumping the franchise's best player since Dirk Nowitzki, but it's still one which helps reinvigorate the fanbase and improve optimism about how open the team's title window may still be.

This 2025-26 season preview analyzes all important betting odds pertaining to the Mavericks as Flagg joins a group of veterans with championship resumes all itching for another crack at the Larry O'Brien trophy, even though their chances may hinge on whether or not the 18-year-old Blue Devil can live up to the immense hype out of the gate.

Best Bet: N/A

Indulge in all of the conspiracy theories you like over how the ping-pong balls which gave the Mavericks a 1.8-percent chance of securing the top prize in this year's draft class fell their way, but the fact of the matter remains that Flagg is now calling Dallas his home in a post-Luke Doncic world. Considering the team fell from 50 wins and a Finals appearance in 2024 to 39 victories and missing the playoffs entirely this past season, having a talent with such incredible long-term upside after protests and mock funerals were taking place outside of the American Airlines Center following the Doncic trade is quite the twist of fate.

The team will still need to compete without its All-Star floor general Kyrie Irving until around All-Star Weekend following his recovery from a torn ACL, and it's not as though the roster is swimming in options at point guard currently. Spencer Dinwiddie (now with the Charlotte Hornets) was the only player to miss no fewer than three games, and Anthony Davis got injured in his first outing in a Mavericks uniform which cost him the next 18 games. Dallas isn't a glowing image of clean health, so the only real chance it has of making up ground in the Western Conference is avoiding major absences, as availability is the best ability.

The 2024 run to the Finals as the No. 5 seed was special, and maybe even repeatable with this new group. A lot has to fall their way, though, and with all due respect to Davis and what could become of Flagg, being able to guide the Mavericks the way Doncic did through the West bracket against stiff competition will be easier said than done. ACL injuries have stifled careers in the past, as well, so who knows how long it will take for Irving to look like his old self, if that's possible. For now, take a wait and see approach when it comes to Dallas, even if the value on some of these bets ends up taking a hit.

Best Bet: OVER 40.5 wins, -108

Reaching an OVER on 40.5 wins signals that oddsmakers believe a .500 campaign, at the very least, is extremely probable for the Mavericks. That's a fair assessment to make considering they just won 39 games in a season full of disarray, unfortunate injuries, and makeshift rotations.

For an UNDER to be achieved here would be an obvious step back, and perhaps a sign that this aging group beyond Flagg can't reach the heights general manager Nico Harrison had envisioned.

Best Bet: Cooper Flagg for nBA Rookie of the year, -195

Two of the last three winners of Rookie of the Year came from the first overall pick, with 2025 recipient Stephon Castle of the San Antonio Spurs breaking the streak started by Paolo Banchero and Victor Wembanyama. In fact, more winners of the Wilt Chamberlain trophy have come from the top spot than any other selection, not that someone of Flagg's skillset needed history on his side to be a monster betting favorite here.

He's the reigning National Player of the Year after leading Duke in points (19.2), rebounds (7.5), assists (4.2), steals (1.4), and blocks (1.4), was a consensus first team All-American, and was both the ACC Player and Rookie of the Year, joining Zion Williamson, Marvin Bagley III, and Jahlil Okafor as the only players in conference history to pull off such a feat. His laundry list of accolades goes well beyond even that for what was a one-and-done in the NCAA, but any concerns over what his numbers may be in a starting lineup featuring the likes of Davis and Klay Thompson are valid.

Flagg would be the unquestionable No. 1 guy on underachievers like the Charlotte Hornets or Brooklyn Nets, but in the Lone Star State, he'll have to understand that there's a pecking order and he's no longer atop the food chain. His impact will still be felt, and being in what could be a winning situation helps his stock, especially if the Mavericks can stay in the conversation for a top-six seed.
