The New York Knicks haven't won an NBA championship since 1973, which is the fifth-longest drought overall and arguably the most frustrating considering the perpetual expectations stemming from competing in such a passionate market. The door to the Larry O'Brien trophy, especially through the Eastern Conference, has never been as open for New York to slide on through as it currently is, but that guarantees nothing.
This 2025-26 preview dissects all betting odds involving the Knicks in their pursuit of a title victory which has evaded the franchise long enough.

Best Bet: New York Knicks to win eastern conference championship, +370
The Knicks' kryptonite their past two playoff runs has been the Indiana Pacers, having been sent home by them most recently in the conference finals in a competitive seven-game series. An Achilles injury to Tyrese Haliburton likely signals that a rematch for a third year in a row isn't in the cards, which therefore means there's one less giant obstacle impeding New York's first trip back to the Finals since 1999.
The dismissal of now former head coach Tom Thibodeau was controversial to most, as the team had achieved a .565 winning percentage under his guidance across five seasons with a 24-23 record in the postseason. Some of the issues plaguing the Knicks, however, were due to his unwillingness to invest in his second unit, resulting in his starters being worn down playing heavy minutes. Mike Brown is unlikely to make those same mistakes, and the acquisitions of Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele means he has more resources at his disposal coming off the bench to cut down on the playing time of a starting lineup which all ranked in the top 25 amongst players in minutes played.
Only the Cleveland Cavaliers currently have shorter odds to represent the East in the Finals than New York, and it's only by the slimmest of margins. Strictly comparing talent from top to bottom against other contenders in the conference, it's hard to argue the Knicks not being at the top of the food chain.

Best Bet: OVER 53.5 wins, -105
Playing in the Atlantic Division means New York has four looks each at the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors, Philadelphia 76ers, and Brooklyn Nets, all of whom are anything but locks to qualify for the playoffs. There's a reason why the Knicks' odds to both take the Atlantic and make the postseason are what they are, because the teams surrounding them have either done little to improve their stock, or have made financial moves to bottom out.
The last time New York went over 53.5 victories for an 82-game season was in 2012-13 (54-28), and prior to that, such a win-loss record hadn't been seen since 1996-97 (57-25). Three of the teams which surrounded it in the standings (Boston, Indiana, and Milwaukee Bucks) are all projected to be on a downswing due to injuries and departures, which explains why oddsmakers see an uptick in this market.

Best Bet: Jordan Clarkson for nBA sixth Man of the year, +3500
Clarkson is no stranger to this honor, having been named Sixth Man of the Year in 2021 as a member of the Utah Jazz. He's now trading in purple for a healthy dose of orange, likely vaulting Miles McBride as the top option coming off the pine after averaging 16.2 points in 37 games last season. A combination of Utah prioritizing its younger players in the backcourt, along with a left foot injury, kept Clarkson from suiting up more.
He just turned 33 years old in June, and his offensive efficiency isn't anything to write home about, but in a league where scoring is valued perhaps above all else for bench players, Clarkson should receive enough looks to keep his name in the mix. We'll soon see how much of a leash Brown will have if Clarkson's shot isn't dropping, though, but until then, there's reason to feel good about this wager.
Keep in mind, as well, that Clarkson's teammate Josh Hart is currently one of the favorites for Sixth Man of the Year at 11-to-1, with the Knicks having made the call to make Mitchell Robinson the fifth starter. Hart was in the starting lineup for all 77 of his appearances last season, and should any changes come about, placing him in the backcourt would be the logical move to make based on his experience. Clarkson's role off the bench isn't in doubt, so with the likelihood that Hart may ultimately return to being a starter, the value lies with Clarkson here.
