An ongoing investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers and owner Steve Ballmer allegedly using "no-show jobs" with companies he'd invested in to circumvent the salary cap to initially land Kawhi Leonard has put a dark cloud over what was otherwise a very successful offseason for the organization. Heavy punishments could be handed down by the league, with bettors praying that the process goes beyond this season so as not to hinder any immediate futures involving the team.
This 2025-26 season preview will take a look at significant betting odds pertaining to the Clippers after they got much older through a laundry list of veteran acquisitions, yet it may all be for not if they're made an example of in swift fashion should the aforementioned allegations be ultimately proven true.

Best Bet: Los Angeles Clippers to win Pacific Division, +130
Several punishments have already been projected for how this dire situation concludes, from fines and suspensions being issued to the owner, player, and personnel, to the only draft picks and swaps the team has in its possession (2030, 2031, and 2032, and pick swaps in 2027 and 2029) being revoked. Perhaps the most extreme, however, would be the potential voiding of Leonard's contract, as he's owed $50 million in 2025-26 and another $50.3 million the season after. Some may view that as a blessing in disguise for Los Angeles considering the amount of time he's missed due to injury since coming aboard in 2019. It would also provide the Clippers max cap room in the summer of 2026, as well, barring commissioner Adam Silver going above and beyond by keeping Leonard's deal on the books while simultaneously voiding it. The former two-time Finals Most Valuable Player is likely never going to turn back the clock and return to the form which guided both the San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors to titles, so this could be a way for Los Angeles to wipe the slate clean and move forward.
For now, Leonard is still on the payroll and still very much a part of the Clippers' title aspirations. That is, if he's even available enough to play a part in any of it. The reason why so much emphasis was put on improving depth was because the 34-year-old wing can't be trusted to compete when necessary. The team went 24-21 last season in his absence, which is fine, and he thankfully was able to suit up for all seven games in the opening round versus the Denver Nuggets, albeit in a series loss, but that all feels like an anomaly. Some combination of summer additions Chris Paul, John Collins, Bradley Beal, and Brook Lopez helps shore up a bench which ranked 24th in scoring. They're all proven scorers, some of whom are in the twilight of their respective careers, and lest we forget that No. 2 scorer James Harden just turned 36 in August. Los Angeles' offense dropped 3.6 points per 100 possessions year over year, so every basket matters.
On paper, this is the best group the Leonard-Harden duo has had to work with, which could be enough to finally reach the third round. Projecting a conference championship and Finals berth is expecting the world of the Clippers when all they've done over time is disappoint in April and May. Considering the only reason they didn't take the Pacific Division over the Los Angeles Lakers was because of a tiebreaker after finishing with identical 50-32 records, one should absolutely take advantage of nearly 2-to-1 odds for them to finish atop their four competitors for the second time in three years. Beyond that, you're taking your life and your funds into your own hands hoping for a deep playoff run that's consistently failed to manifest.

Best Bet: OVER 49.5 wins, -115
Los Angeles just won 50 games with Leonard playing less than half the season, and now the roster has improved significantly with upgrades on both ends of the floor.
The value here (for the time being) is extraordinary, especially since the win total projection has actually dropped over the last few months, creating more wiggle room for an OVER to be achieved.

Best Bet: John Collins for NBA Sixth Man of the Year, +1500
This future for the Clippers has undergone a dramatic transformation with the news that Beal has been named the starting shooting guard for opening night, with oddsmakers previously believing he'd be the first man off the bench. The issue with Collins skyrocketing up this leaderboard, though, is that head coach Tyronn Lue can't seem to remember whether or not he has the 28-year-old as his starting power forward, as Derrick Jones Jr. is also in the mix. This number could sink if Collins is positioned at the four next to Harden, Beal, Leonard, and Zubac, but for now, we work with the numbers we have in front of us.
Collins has never finished in the single digits in scoring per game during his eight prior seasons with both the Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz, and he just contributed 19 points across 40 appearances last season in Salt Lake City, although his year was derailed as the team willfully kept him out as he was too much of a factor in games the team was winning. Los Angeles has never really had players with much size to play power forward, and Collins is the ideal fit next to Zubac (if he starts) since he can space the floor next to a big who has real estate around the basket with zero range. If Collins is indeed heading the second unit, he'll still see a ton of minutes even with DJJ technically ahead of him on the depth chart, therefore justifying his 15-to-1 odds for the John Havlicek trophy.
