The dismissal of now former vice president and team chairman Masai Ujiri was a controversial decision for the Toronto Raptors, who have a losing record (224-248) across six years since their surprise 2019 NBA championship victory. Ujiri was the architect of the greatest stretch of winning basketball in franchise history, but in order to recapture the glory years, as well as save money for Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment while achieving more control along the way, a change was ultimately deemed necessary.
This 2025-26 season preview analyzes all betting odds for a Raptors team set to kick off a post-Ujiri era, with Scottie Barnes and a healthy Brandon Ingram leading the charge on the hardwood to potentially make the team a factor once again in the Eastern Conference.

Seven postseason berths in a row (2014 through 2020) and eight in nine years feels like eons ago for Toronto, who've since missed out on playoff action each of the last three years with consecutive losing records for the first time in over a decade. With Chris Boucher now a member of the Boston Celtics, not a single player from the title roster remains, with the core group of Barnes, RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, an extended Jakob Poeltl, and a soon-to-be debuting Ingram now tasked with lifting the Raptors back to prominence. This group is a massive financial commitment with what's currently the eighth-priciest roster in basketball at just under $191 million, and such a hefty pricey tag needs to equate to some sort of return on investment soon.
Toronto was a mere shell of itself last season, having little continuity with starting lineups as backup rookie Jamal Shead was the only rotation piece suiting up for more than 66 games (75). Ingram was never utilized as he was recovering from an ankle injury, and the aforementioned "BBQ" trio all missed significant stretches due to their own ailments. The likes of Ochai Agbaji, Jonathan Mogbo, and Ja'Kobe Walter received more playing time than they had likely anticipated as a result, and but that should play to the Raptors' benefit moving forward as there's now a second unit with promise in place.
The emerging cracks in the East's foundation has created some wiggle room for what should be a healthy Toronto to close the gap in the win-loss column. Barnes is squarely and firmly in the role of No. 1 guy, and Ingram's presence should allow him to be more of a facilitator and playmaker which he prefers to be with his new teammate having averaged 23 points since 2020 as a New Orleans Pelican. That dynamic should work barring any physical setbacks, and the two years remaining on Barrett's contract could and likely will be used as bait around the trade deadline if there's a need to give those two more help. The Raptors have been too underwhelming for too long, and this feels like the year they get back on track in more ways than one.

Best Bet: OVER 39.5 wins, +104
A 55-109 record over the last two seasons means Toronto has won just over one-third of their total games during that span. Going 30-52 in 2024-25 was a five-game improvement year over year, but it still wasn't a substantial leap considering how much unease their was over the futures of key guys in 2023-24.
Even finishing with 40 victories, which would equate to barely an OVER for this number at this time, would still be below the .500 mark, and the Raptors have avoided that distinction for three-straight seasons since 2013. This is going to ring true for a ton of the teams in the East, but if there was ever a time to be reengaged and return to winning basketball, it's now. It's not every day that so many All-Stars are on injured reserve, and Toronto has the depth and top-end talent to make some much-needed noise.

Best Bet: Darko Rajakovic for NBA Coach of the year, +2000
Darko Rajakovic is currently tied for the sixth-shortest betting odds in the Coach of the Year race in what will be his third season on the sidelines north of the border. He's well behind the likes of Jamahl Mosley and Quin Snyder as of writing, and having nine of the Raptors' first 13 games being away from Scotiabank Arena will make it incredibly difficult for the team to get off to a hot start. Nonetheless, it's not how you start but how you finish, and the bar is so low that anything above the minimal expectations many perhaps see for the team will help Rajakovic generate some love with voters.
Having the team option on the fourth year of his three-and-one contract with Toronto picked up well before hand was a sign of good faith that Rajakovic is still the right man for the job. This hasn't been an easy role to fill, but the players have clearly gravitated towards a coach who has publicly stuck up for them time and time again, and one who has demonstrated why he was given the opportunity in the first place after serving as an assistant with multiple other franchises for nearly a decade.
