Oklahoma City Thunder 2025-26 NBA Season Preview, Betting Odds

Winning an NBA championship in 2025 as a franchise which hadn't hoisted the Larry O'Brien trophy since the team was based out of another part of the country is undoubtedly a massive accomplishment. For the Oklahoma City Thunder to do so again for a second year in a row, however, would put them in elite company and break a trend of a unique champion being crowned each of the last seven years.

In this 2025-26 season preview, here's a look at all important betting odds pertaining to the Thunder as they soon embark on their quest to raise a second-straight title banner to the rafters at the Paycom Center.

Best Bet: Oklahoma City Thunder To Win NBA Championship, +210

The second round has been a ceiling for defending champions in recent memory with no winner getting past the semifinals the year after winning the title during this ongoing stretch of parity. That creates a degree of pessimism before declaring Oklahoma City the next great dynasty in the making, because first it will have to prove that a championship hangover isn't in the cards. Then again, when you bring everyone back a core which includes reigning league and Finals Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, along with All-NBA Third Team and All-Defensive Second Team member Jalen Williams, having just signed the pair to long-term extensions, perhaps there's no reason to be fatalistic at all even looking at said history.

The Thunder's 16-game lead over the rest of the Western Conference in standings would lead some to believe that they have little to worry about, but the Denver Nuggets did push them to seven games in the second round and were maybe one less Aaron Gordon injury away from sending the eventual champs home early. Other teams like the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers have also made significant improvements to their respective rosters this summer, so the road back to the Finals is littered with landmines which could derail Oklahoma City's repeat bid.

If you're already presuming that the Thunder will represent the West again, though, you may as well go all in with the greater return and project back-to-back titles while you're at it. Yes, the Indiana Pacers did go the distance in the Finals, but the landscape over in the East has dramatically changed, and the lack of credible threats on that side of the bracket is noticeable. Oklahoma City was the best team by a considerable margin in 2024-25 and that hasn't changed in the slightest. It was the only team to finish with a top-three offense (119.2 points per 100 possessions, third) and defense (106.6 points allowed per 100 possessions, first), with the latter being 2.5 points better than all 29 other teams. They're bringing guns to a knife fight, and as long as those pistols don't get jammed, you have to love their chances.

Best Bet: OVER 62.5 Wins, -108

Only the 2019-2020 Toronto Raptors and 2023-24 Denver Nuggets managed to improve upon the winning percentage achieved during their championship season the following year. Oklahoma City's 68-14 record just established a new franchise record, but oddsmakers are projecting fewer victories as that falls in line with how the other six teams that won at least 68 games in league history fared.

The bar is so incredibly high that it's unfair to ask to see an uptick in the win-loss column anyway, so the Thunder finishing with a worse record than literally their best mark ever shouldn't be viewed in a negative light. Racking up between 63 and 67 wins would still put them in the hunt for the No. 1 overall seed once again, and for bettors, that would also equate to an OVER.

Best Bet: Chet Holmgren For NBA Defensive Player Of The Year, +650

As one-sided as the race for 2025 Defensive Player of the Year appeared to be prior to Victor Wembanyama having a blood clot which cost him his eligibility, lest we forget that Chet Holmgren was right there in the thick of it alongside Wembanyama hunting for the Hakeem Olajuwon trophy. He even passed him atop the odds leaderboard for a period of time, as well, but like Wembanyama, injuries ultimately prevented Holmgren from capturing the hardware.

The lanky 7-foot-1 center is the frontcourt backbone of a defense which allowed just 105.6 points per 100 possessions across the 877 total minutes he played, which is 0.1 points better than the Thunder's average that ranked first across the Association by a considerable margin. When his efficiency shooting the rock failed him in the playoffs, Holmgren more than made up for his lack of touch by battening down the hatches and blocking 43 shots in 23 appearances.

It's hard to imagine Oklahoma City not finishing with a top-five defense for a third year in a row considering the immense level of talent it has on that end of the floor. It can be difficult to differentiate the impact someone like Holmgren makes as opposed to Williams or Luguentz Dort, but the odds are what they are for a reason, and voters tend to gravitate more so towards bigs anyway, giving Holmgren the leg up on his teammates.
