Early Look at Breeders’ Cup Betting Odds

Accelerate Breeders' Cup races Pacific Classic

The 2018 Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs is now less than three months away, with many of the key prep races for the year-end championship event on the horizon including this Saturday’s $1-million Pacific Classic (G1) at Del Mar, a “win and you’re in” race for the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).

The likely favorite for the Pacific Classic is the John Sadler-trained Accelerate, winner of the Gold Cup at Santa Anita (G1) in his last outing on May 26.

The five-year-old ran third in the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) and was ninth in last year’s edition. This year he likely will point toward the Breeders’ Cup Classic and currently is at +800 for the race at Bovada.

Good Magic early favorite in Breeders’ Cup Classic betting

The current betting favorite at Bovada for the Breeders’ Cup Classic is Good Magic at +450. The Chad Brown trainee was the runner-up in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and fourth in the Preakness (G1) and in his most recent outing won the Haskell Invitational (G1) at Monmouth Park.

The next start for Good Magic is likely the $1.25-million Travers (G1) at Saratoga on Aug. 25.

Hofburg is the current second choice in early Breeders’ Cup Classic betting at +600. Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, the colt was seventh in the Run for the Roses and then third in the Belmont. He returned with a victory in the Curlin Stakes. He is pointing toward the Travers.

Diversify, who bypassed last year’s Classic despite winning the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1), is coming into this year’s edition as a major contender. The Rick Violette trainee won the Suburban (G2) and Whitney (G1) in his last two outings. The gelding is currently at +1000 in early Classic betting at Bovada.

Monomoy Girl tops odds for Breeders’ Cup Distaff

Monomoy Girl is the current betting favorite at +275 for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1). The filly has won eight of her nine career starts and took the field gate to wire to win the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) in her last outing on July 22.

Her next start likely will come at Parx Racing in the $1-million Cotillion (G1) on Sept. 22.

Unique Bella is taking action in early Distaff betting at +300. The four-year-old filly from the Jerry Hollendorfer barn has won nine of her dozen career starts, and her connections are considering running her against the boys in the Pacific Classic on Saturday at Del Mar.

Another filly that is going to take on the boys is the brilliant Wonder Gadot, who won the first two jewels of Canada’s Triple Crown against males – the Queen’s Plate and the Prince of Wales. She is listed at +1000 in early Travers Stakes betting at Bovada.

Good Magic is the solid +175 betting favorite for the Travers at Bovada.

Alpha Centauri favored in Breeders’ Cup Mile

Speaking of the ladies, the filly Alpha Centauri is now the favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) after her tour de force beating the boys in the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-Le Buffard – Jacques Le Marois (G1) at Deauville on Sunday, her fourth straight Group 1 victory. She is listed at +200 in early Breeders’ Cup Mile wagering.

The Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) is still a wide-open event with the Euros appearing to have the upper hand. The early favorite is Poet’s Word at +400. The five-year-old won the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1) at Ascot in his last start on July 28.

Bovada has betting odds now available for eight of the Breeders’ Cup races, which will be contested at Churchill Downs on Nov. 2-3.

In addition, the sportsbook offers future betting odds for many of the top international races coming up including Group 1 races such as the St. Leger, Melbourne Cup and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, as well as the 2019 Dubai World Cup and Queen Anne Stakes.
