How To Bet on MLB Simulations

With the COVID-19 pandemic halting the play of live sports, simulations and esports are the latest craze. NBA, NFL and NASCAR have taken center stage since the start of the coronavirus outbreak, and now baseball is an option.

Online sportsbook Sportsbook is releasing odds on MLB simulations run through Out of the Park Baseball 21 and the results, stats and standings can be found on online statistics website Baseball Reference.

What Is Out of the Park Baseball 21?

Out of the Park Baseball 21 (OOTP) is an online simulation game that has the latest up-to-date rosters for accurate sims, although injuries are turned off as are trash-can noises. At this point, there are no videos available for the simulations, which are played out at 12 noon ET each day. The daily schedule follows the official 2020 MLB schedule.

OOTP has extensive historical data dating back to 1871 to draw from when doing these simulations. The company has been around since 1999 and has other products such as MLB Manager, Franchise Hockey Manager and Inside the Park Baseball. They use the latest content-driven websites to help ensure their simulations are accurate.

How Do MLB Simulations Work?

After the simulations are run on OOTP, the daily scores are updated to Baseball Reference shortly after with full box scores, like a standard game, which helps you track hot pitchers and hitters and of course your betting slips. Sportsbook then releases odds for the next day’s slate of games nearly a full day in advance and Baseball Reference has the starting pitchers released in their schedule section as well.

All the simulations are run through an algorithm by using content-driven websites and historical data which should provide an accurate representation of actual play.

How Accurate Are The MLB Simulations?

Judging by the statistics, it appears quite good. As expected, the New York Yankees came out of the gate strong, winning eight of their first 10 games. Additionally, people may remember Homer Bailey Day in 2018, when bettors would fade his starts because he had a record of 1-14 and a 6.09 ERA. Well, it’s back! Bailey started 0-2 with a 10.38 ERA.

How Do You Bet On MLB Simulations?

As is the case with everything that you place a wager on, research is of the utmost importance. The Madden 20 and NBA 2K games don’t typically have a backlog of stats that can help you handicap an upcoming game. That’s where the MLB simulation differs, as Baseball Reference has all the box scores, stats and standings to assist you in making an educated bet.

Online sportsbook Sportsbook has the list of games on their website under Sport Sims, then MLB Sims. Each contest can be found shortly after the current day’s simulations are complete. For instance, April 28 games are simulated at 12 noon ET, and April 29 games will be listed shortly after. The moneyline and total (OVER/UNDER) are the available markets currently for each game and there is a bet limit of $250.

Previous Results

For an example, there were 13 games on the slate for April 6, with the home team winning eight of those contests, seven by multiple runs. The average total score was 8.5, with more than eight runs scored in five games, more notably as the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals slugged their way to 20 runs in a 15-5 Tigers victory.
