March Madness Betting Trends: Best OVER Teams in College Hoops

Nobody wants to bet on an UNDER, especially during the most exciting time in college basketball. So for our first March Madness betting trend, we will look at the best OVER teams from the 2020-21 regular season and conference tournaments.

At the top of the list with an OVER/UNDER record of 19-4 is the Ball State Cardinals, who averaged 74.7 points per game while surrendering 75.5 ppg. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, they didn’t make the dance and don’t really impact the March Madness betting trends.

However, the ninth team on the list is the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who are the No. 4 seed in the Midwest bracket. Oklahoma State had an O/U record of 19-8-1, averaging 77.1 points per game while giving up 72.9 ppg.

March Madness Betting Trends: Best UNDER Teams in College Hoops

At the opposite end of the spectrum from the Cardinals’ OVERs is the Maine Black Bears’ UNDERs. The total went UNDER in seven of the Bears’ nine games in their shortened season with an average combined score of 117.7. They rank 346th out of 347 teams this year in points per game at 53.1.

Like Ball State in the OVERs, though, Maine also didn’t make the NCAA Tournament. In fact, no March Madness team shows up in the top 10 UNDER teams list, but the 13th team is the Grand Canyon Antelopes, making their first March Madness appearance. The Antelopes had an O/U record of 6-14, limiting their opponents to 61.6 points per game, the ninth-fewest in the nation.

March Madness Betting Trends: Best ATS Records in College Hoops

If you’re not a fan of betting on totals, no worries, we have March Madness betting trends for spreads as well. At the top of the list, the Navy Midshipmen covered 77.8 percent of their games by going 14-4 ATS.

Although Navy isn’t in the NCAA Tournament, the second team on the list is there. The Drake Bulldogs got off to a tremendous start to the season in terms of spread record, opening their campaign by covering in 13 straight games. The Bulldogs finished with a 20-6-1 ATS record and are colliding with Wichita State in one of the First Four matchups.

March Madness Betting Trends: Worst ATS Records in College Hoops

The best fade team in the nation this season has been the Chicago State Cougars with a record of 2-7 ATS. The Cougars have an average scoring margin of -33.2 that is the worst in college basketball.

Perhaps not surprisingly, you have to scroll down the list a little bit to find the first March Madness team that doesn’t have a great ATS record and the first team that appears is the Michigan State Spartans at 28th. The Spartans went 9-18 ATS and will meet UCLA in one of the First Four matchups.
