The biggest surprise of the 2016 NCAA Tournament has most certainly been the Syracuse Orange. You will recognize Syracuse as “that team that has ruined your bracket”, but one bettor is now just a couple of Orange wins away from a $100,000 payday.
Yes, a bettor at the Sportsbook SuperBook in Las Vegas placed a $100 wager on Cuse back on January 13, getting the struggling team at 1000-1. The Orange barely made it to the dance, but have since knocked off Dayton, Middle Tennessee, Gonzaga and Virginia to miraculously earn a place in the Final Four as a No. 10 seed. Furthermore, they have been a cash cow at the betting window during their run, covering the number in each game of the NCAA Tournament!
That path to the Final Four may seem slightly easier than most and Jay Kornegay, head of the sports book at the Sportsbook would agree. According to CNN Money, Kornegay isn’t too worried about the possibility of paying out the $100K as the Orange have a pair of “tough games ahead of them”.
The Orange face the North Carolina Tar Heels in their Final Four matchup Saturday evening. Syracuse is presently a 10-point underdog at online shop Sportsbook and has the longest odds of the four remaining at +750. UNC, on the other hand, is the favorite at +105.
