Matthews and Ovechkin Lead The Group
Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs fell one goal short of matching Ovechkin and Pastrnak for the league lead in goals a season ago. Matthews will look to build off his 47 goals and notch his first Rocket Richard Trophy win this year. He is the +450 betting favorite, with 18.18 percent implied odds according to our Sports Betting Calculator.
Don’t overlook Ovechkin, who at age 35 is still the league’s most elite marksman and has monopolized this accolade. At +550 he has the second-best odds and that even seems too low considering what he’s done over the last decade.
Before sharing last season’s honors with Pastrnak, he’d won the award outright in six of the previous seven seasons and his lowest output over that span is 33 goals back in 2016-17, when Sidney Crosby wrestled the Richard trophy away from him.
Best Value Pick: Brayden Point
Brayden Point currently has +3000 odds to score the most goals this season and that comes as a bit of a surprise. With Nikita Kucherov out for the season, Point will have more responsibilities at even strength and on the power play.
He is slated to play alongside Steven Stamkos and the two should be able to score an abundance of goals. There are a lot of good choices on the oddsboard, but Point stands out as a great value pick for a guy who is a year removed from scoring 41 goals.
