Matthews Leading The Group
Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs fell one goal short of matching Ovechkin and Pastrnak for the league lead in goals a season ago. Matthews is looking to build off his 47 goals and notch his first Rocket Richard Trophy win this year. He is the +375 betting favorite, with 21.05 percent implied odds to win according to our Sports Betting Calculator.
Matthews leads the NHL with 11 goals in 14 games and has scored in seven of his last eight games. He is playing on a line with playmaker Mitch Marner, who finds him at all costs. Matthews scored 47 last season in just 70 games, and he is currently on pace to top that number even in a shortened season.
Best Value Pick: Leon Draisaitl
Draisaitl is having another tremendous start and is tied for sixth in the league with eight goals, three behind Matthews. Draisaitl plays on a power-play unit with McDavid in Edmonton, which greatly benefits him in the scoring category.
Draisaitl is a bit of a streaky goal scorer, having scored six of his eight goals in a five-game stretch. He’s scored only two times in his last six games, but he has ample chances with the high-flying Oilers to finish with the most goals. While he does have twice as many assists as goals, Draisaitl at +800 odds is a good value bet to make on winning the Rocket Richard Trophy.
