Daniel Negreanu is coming off a losing battle in a grueling 25,000-hand head-to-head poker match with Doug Polk earlier this year, but he now has his sights set on the man with the most WSOP bracelets of all time, Phil Hellmuth.
Although Polk was a 4:1 favorite over Negreanu in their epic battle, the Poker Brat, Hellmuth, was quick to criticize Kid Poker’s play. The criticism quickly drew a shot back from the Canadian.
Yo @phil_hellmuth you said you watched “zero” of the match but seem to have strong opinions on the play.

I’ll play you a heads up match live, online, at any stakes you feel comfortable with for as many hands as you would like.

Hellmuth has taken the bait and the two will compete in a no-limit hold’em match on March 16 that can be seen on PokerGo. Despite the initial disapproval from Hellmuth, on display in a recent interview, it is Negreanu who is the betting favorite in the Daniel Negreanu vs Phil Hellmuth odds.

Daniel Negreanu vs Phil Hellmuth Odds: Where’s the value?
Immediately your eyes must be drawn to Hellmuth – the Sportsbook of more World Series of Poker bracelets than anyone else with 15 – as an underdog. Of course, to win the WSOP, you must win the final table in a head-to-head matchup, so he’s been there and done that. Hellmuth also played a heads-up match with Antonio Esfandiari last summer, winning three rounds and securing $400,000.
The Poker Brat is pretty firm on the way the game of poker should be played and has been known to lash out when an opponent makes a “stupid” play, but that may play into the hands of Negreanu, as he mentions in the above interview with Odds Shark’s Pam Maldonado. Negreanu says there are things he can exploit in Hellmuth’s game and that he can “out-fundamental him.”
Negreanu himself says there is value in the favorite
While seeing the WSOP Hall of Famer as an underdog is very intriguing, in Kid Poker’s interview with Pam, he asserts that if he were to play Hellmuth 10 times, he’d win seven or eight times.
This stood out to me as he can be found at Sportsbook at -200 and at Sportsbook at -170, with both lines having implied win probabilities of less than 70 percent, which represents value in my eyes.
Surely, after playing 25,000 hands of head-to-head poker with one of the best online head-to-head poker players in the world in Doug Polk, Negreanu must have learned a thing or two that he believes he can capitalize on while playing Hellmuth.
