2021 IPL Odds: Delhi and Bangalore make strong starts

2021 IPL odds are here!

We’re almost a week into the 2021 IPL and though it’s obviously early days as far as the lengthy tournament goes, we’ve seen enough to draw a few conclusions and comment on some early price movements.

The best IPL betting sites have a few differences of opinion regarding the odds they’re offering on some of the other contenders, though IPL odds across the board suggest that Delhi and Bangalore are seen as Mumbai’s closest rivals for the title.

Here are the latest IPL odds from Betway now that the 2021 auction is done and dusted.

Mumbai Indians Lead IPL Odds

Odds to Win the 2021 Indian Premier League
Mumbai Indians+250
Delhi Capitals+450
Royal Challengers Bangalore+450
Punjab Kings+700
Kolkata Knight Riders+800
Sunrisers Hyderabad+900
Chennai Super Kings+1000
Rajasthan Royals+1200

Odds as of April 15 at Betway

As you can see, the IPL cricket odds are wise to the threat of Rohit Sharma and his Mumbai Indians.

The defending champions and the most successful side in the IPL’s history had a mixed start to the tournament. They were narrowly beaten by RCB first up, with Virat Kohli’s men only winning the match with the last ball of the innings.

But Mumbai showed they’re made of strong stuff when beating KKR against all odds. Posting a below-par total against KKR, they also saw Eoin Morgan’s men make a good start to the chase before they pulled things back and denied KKR’s big hitters at the death, eventually winning the game by 10 runs.

Mumbai will need to find greater consistency if they’re to somehow win a third IPL title in a row, but they’re certainly good enough. Their odds of +250 (implied probability of 28.6 percent) make them the favorites as per usual.

The fast starters so far are RCB with two wins in two games for Virat Kohli’s men. Having beaten Mumbai first up, they also held their nerve to win against SRH in what was also a topsy-turvy match.

Chasing just 150, they made a good start to their innings with David Warner going well but were also guilty of losing too many wickets in the middle overs.

RCB bowled well at the death and showed they may finally have learned from past mistakes. But it was batsman Glenn Maxwell who was man of the match for his well-paced 59, the Aussie batsman showing good early form at his new franchise. They’re second favorites at +450, which represents an implied probability of 18.2 percent.

Last year’s runners-up Delhi won their first match convincingly and most betting sites have them as second favorites at around the +450 mark. Another win on Thursday and those odds may shrink further.

Struggling at the moment is Hyderabad, with two losses from their first two games.  Warner and company need to get a win on the board with their middle order currently a cause for concern.

Latest IPL news

Royals’ Stokes ruled out of the whole IPL

It’s been a bad few weeks for the Rajasthan Royals.

First, star bowler Jofra Archer was ruled out of the first half of the tournament after suffering an injury on England duty, depriving the Royals of the man who can make a real impact early on in the innings.

Then they lost a narrow game to the Punjab Kings that they may well have won on another day.

And to compound their misery, they’ve now lost Ben Stokes to injury as well. The all-rounder broke a finger while fielding, and while he still batted, the injury was seen as far worse than everyone thought, and they’ll now have to make do without his services.

He was Player of the Tournament a few seasons ago so he’s a huge loss to a struggling side.

Nitish Rana showing strong early form

Nitish Rana has been given the job of opening the batting at KKR this year and is already justifying the faith put in him.

He scored 80 in a winning cause against CSK and 57 in a losing one against RCB. He’s looked accomplished and confident at the crease, rotating the strike well and punishing the bad balls.

It’s early days yet but he’s currently the Orange Cap holder on 137 runs, closely followed by Sanju Samson on 119.

KKR will be hoping there are plenty more runs to come from Rana’s bat and their own fortunes may be somewhat dependent on his form over the next few weeks.

Busy Pant can do the lot

After a year of keeping wicket for India and being their best batsman across all formats, Rishabh Pant now has an extra job on his hands: the Delhi captaincy.

He’s replaced the injured Shreyas Iyer as skipper of DC and has started the season well. In addition to captaining the side to a win over CSK, Pant also kept wicket and executed the run out of Suresh Raina.

And that was before coming on to bat at No. 3 and scoring an unbeaten 15 off 12 from No. 3, as they chased CSK’s total with ease.

He’s very much their main man this season but he’s certainly capable of handling the pressure.

Top Rajasthan Batsman Market – Livingstone, we presume

The injury to Stokes means the Royals need to find a replacement for him at the top of the order. It also means that they have room to bring in another overseas player.

It could all mean a big chance for Liam Livingstone. The English opener is a fearless hitter who had a good season in the Big Bash and has the power and shots to clear the boundary at ease. The downside is a lack of IPL experience but he’s shown his class for plenty of franchises around the world before.

He’ll surely open between now and the end of the season and will have lots of chances to get to some big scores.

He does admittedly have 119 runs to make up on Samson after the skipper’s brilliant opening day knock. But at odds of +500 with Betway, Livingstone has plenty of time to make up for that deficit.

In the meanwhile, check our dedicated section on how to bet on the IPL.

Why Bet On the IPL?

The IPL is a wonderful annual T20 tournament that boasts all of the game’s star names in a two-month extravaganza complete with over-the-top commentary, big excitable crowds, huge sponsors and even some cheerleaders thrown in.

But aside from all that, it’s serious business when it comes to IPL betting. The nice thing for the savvy IPL bettor is that we have 13 years of IPL data and historical results to study before deciding what to bet on next.

This data can give us serious clues about which type of batsman may come good at a particular ground or what a par score might be on another. Given the popularity of the IPL, there’s no shortage of team news, injury updates and other gossip to also take on board before putting your money down.

Other advantages of betting on IPL 2021 are the massive availability of different betting markets: from man of the match to top batsman, to who will hit the most sixes, who will be the top bowler in the game, to more long-term markets like who will be the top batsman for the whole IPL or which two teams might contest the final. The greater availability of markets, the greater the choice when it comes to what you want to bet on.
